Utorrent Killing my LAN

THE SETUP

Hey i dont know if anyone has experienced this issue or not but i recently just bought a Motorola/Arris SBG6580 Wireless modem/router combo deal and have been having trouble. I have 2 computers one that is my dedicated torrent box and one that i use to view my media via PLEX. The plex box is 192.168.0.2 and the torrent box is 192.168.0.3. I have an external HDD attached to the Plex box and have this drive mapped on the Torrent box as network drive. I have all torrents write straight to the external drive. Prior to installing the SBG6580  this worked fine. I thought this problem was due to the using as network drive thing so today i changed the configuration and physically disconnected the External HDD and connected it direct to the Torrent box and yet the problem persists.

THE PROBLEM,

Whenever I open UTorrent my hardwired network goes nuts and the 2 hardwired machines cannot communicate anymore. Mapped drives fail to open. I have a continuous ping on both machines going to the other and packet loss goes crazy with Giant Ping times, "Destination host unreachable" and "time outs". The interesting thing i just noticed today however with yet another continuous ping to a 3rd wireless machine is that it remains pingable with no issue.

CONCLUSIONS.

1.This issue has nothing to do with my ISP all computers are able to browse the internet just fine.

2.This only exists on the physical LAN as both my plex box and my torrent box can speak with my wireless box just fine they just cant communicate with each other.

3.This issue only occurs when running Utorrent. These machines can communicate together fine when utorrent is off low ping rates and no packet loss.

4.This is not related to writing to mapped network drive as i orginally thought as i have removed this as a possibility.

Please someone help a brother out. Gimme an idea of something i have missed. If not my next step is to blame the SBG6580 and try and get a new one but id rather not have to go back to the store..

1. No but having utorrent running unrestricted it will take over any bandwidth that is open.

2. Sounds like bandwidth problem that you need to resolve where one is taking far too much bandwidth then needed

3. Utorrent will take up as much bandwidth that is open unless you set your router to place how much bandwidth the computer running torrent uses that will let other system use the internet without lag or interruptions.

4. Not related but since they are tied into one LAN each will affect the other when bandwidth usage becomes high.

5. What version are you using? I use 2.0.4 and have no problem with bandwidth allocation once I went to Fiber but on DSL you will see the slowdown.

First Sorry for the late reply this forum will apparently not let me respond until after i have made 8 more approved posts. (if this could be removed that would be great otherwise i will have to get back to everyone roughly 24 hrs later)

I have not used any setup guide.

I could be wrong but i think maybe i didnt state myself adequately but this is not an issue with the WAN i have internet access on all machines so unless utorrent uses LAN bandwidth which i would think would not accomplish anything since this is not traffic that leaves my internal network. Additionally if utorrent did steal LAN bandwidth somehow i would expect to see this problem happening across my wireless network as well and as stated "The interesting thing i just noticed today however with yet another continuous ping to a 3rd wireless machine is that it remains pingable with no issue."

"4. Not related but since they are tied into one LAN each will affect the other when bandwidth usage becomes high" Im not sure what you are saying here exactly. I am not daisy chaining my system through a machine but instead the each have one allocated ethernet port.

Verison is 3.4.3

The Link you provided takes me to a page with more links. The first link (setup guide) is to a page that no longer exists and so far all other links redirect back to the forum home page.

Some additional developments. I have connected a third hardwired computer to my network. I have now started 3 continous ping tests on machine one i test ping to 192.168.0.3 (torrent machine) this yields troubled time outs and such. I test to 192.168.0.4 (wirless machine) and this yields no trouble. Ping to 192.168.0.5 (third hardwired machine) and this one is fine also.

It seems that only when Utorrent is running my machine cannot reach other machines on my internal network. and ping time out start occurring. I have checked and there is nothing special about my cpu or ram no spikes when running utorrent. Just internal lan congestion but only for the torrent machine not the others on my network.

any thought?
