don911
Whenever I have to reboot my computer, and thus re-start uTorrent, it takes a couple of days before all torrents are seeding properly. It seems like uTorrent needs a lot of time to through every single torrent before they can move from "Queued Seed" to "Sedding". Is there a way to speed this up? If not, will uTorrent me multithreaded in the future? Right now, it seems like this process only utilizes part of one core. I have 4 cores with 8 threads, and Activity Monitor says uTorrent is only using 3.5% of my CPU capacity. I assume if uTorrent was multithreaded, the process could go about 8 times as fast? I use uTorrent for Mac 1.8.4 on a Mac Pro with OS 10.10.4.
DreadWingKnight
Multithreading uTorrent won't speed up that part of the process. Systems are typically limited by hard drive speed during the re-check process.
don911
Hi DreadWingKnight, I'm not talking about the re-check, which takes even longer, and I can see reads from the disk. I'm just talking about having the torrents change from "Queued Seed" to "Seeding" every time you start uTorrent normally. When looking in Activity Monitor, there is barely any disk activity going on at all. So it has to be the CPU working. When comparing the process for different sized torrents, the actual size doesn't seem to matter that much. For example, 42 torrents with a total size of 11GB, took 14 minutes to change from "Queued Seed" to "Seeding", but 24 torrents with a total size of 66GB took 7 minutes. But overall I would guess the whole process takes about a minute per torrent, which would be about 16h per 1000 torrents or so. I hope that this can be improved upon, because I always dread re-booting the computer when I need to. With Vuze, for example, all torrents always start seeding within a few minutes of starting the program. No waiting for hours and hours for the torrents to seed. So there definitely seems to be room for improvement with uTorrent.
DreadWingKnight
Running large numbers of torrents causes other performance issues. uTorrent is already multithreaded in areas where it would actually benefit. There is no plans to change that.

DreadWingKnight
To have active at once, 5-10, regardless of your connection. The more you have open, the more number of ways your storage drive's limited speeds have to be split and the more ways your connection has to be split.
