Random lock-ups and high CPU usage

Hi,

Since my ISP has upgraded my download speed to 100 Mbits/s, I'm experiencing some weird issues with the latest uTorrent client. While downloading some bigger (~10 GiB) content, even if only 1 torrent is running, the UI locks up periodically and download speed drops to 0. During this, the CPU usage is constant 100% on the core the client uses. In my case it's 25% because of HyperThreading on a dual-core CPU. If I restart the client it goes fine again for a while, then the issue comes again. I tried to exit from any other application and shut down Windows Firewall, but it didn't solved the issue. The only thing that can be used as a workaround if I set a speed limit to torrent traffic in my router to ~50 Mbit/s (but hey! it's awful that I can't use my whole bandwidth)

Some detailed information:

Client version: 3.4.2 (34024)

OS: Windows Server 2012R2 with all the latest updates

CPU: Intel Core i3-4130T (dual-core with HyperThreading)

RAM: 2x2 GiB

HDD: 2x2 TiB (using dynamic spanned volume as storage partition; no special file system setting was applied)

ISP: DIGI (hungary); bandwidth: 100M/50M

My client runs on default settings except that the disk cache is increased to 768 MiB in order to give some time to the disk to allocate the files in the begining of a download. I have tried with default disk cache settings, but it didn't help.

My question is: are there any setting/tip to avoid this issue without limiting the download speed?

Thanks

Edit: I tried Vuze in the same scenario and it didn't lock up. Additionally I downloaded the same file with uTorrent on Windows 8.1 and it worked fine, but this was another PC with very different parameters and it uses an SSD. Interestingly it didn't allocate the whole file on Windows 8.1, but it did on Windows Server even if diskio.no_zero is "true".

Edit2: Additional info: the client runs under a standard user which doesn't have administrator rights

I've had a similar problem with utorrent locking up at random intervals, also killing my Firefox browser activity. sometimes several times a day.  I've set a download limit of 4MB/sec, and have no trouble maintaining that(until system locks up).  I notice that this lockup does not affect my internet phone, which runs thru same router.]

I have found a partial solution, which eliminates the problem completely.  Unfortunately, the solution involves running windoze in SAFE mode, which eliminates any sound capability.  Luckily, I have at least one other computer which I can use for anything requiring sound.

In my case, performance of other applications is not affected. Unfortunately, safe mode is not an option for me. This machine has to run many services (file sharing, web server, iSCSI storage etc.) and it's also a media center, so sound is mandatory.
