vjc
I am running on 1.8.6 uTorrent for Mac. I am experiencing limited download speeds (.5% to 1% of maximum), and I have to keep restarting uTorrent every minute to sustain those speeds. My download bandwidth is set to unlimited. I am connected directly to the router on a DSL connection. Sample of what's happening to my speed: Please help. Thanks!vjc
binaryadmin
I think I'm having the same problem. Since updating to 10.10/Yosemite, my maximum total download speed it capped at 10kb/s. If I quite uTorrent and restart it, the downloads jump up to 3-4mb/s for about half a minute, then it drops down to 10kb/s. Downloading the exact same torrent on Vuze gets a consistent 3-4mb/s, so it's not a HDD buffering issue nor an ISP shaping issue. I think it may be something in the way OSX 10.10 handles uTorrent, but not idea what/how/why. I tried upgrading to the latest version of uTorrent, but this has had no effect. ParchedOne
Same here. Has anyone found a workaround? Or is there a program that works better with mac?
wcp
i just started a thread about this as i'm experiencing the same type of download speed issue... i've noticed that if i "Stop" all torrents other than the 1 or 2 i'm trying to download (and restart the program with non-download torrents stopped) that my speed is good and maintains high performance, but as soon as i activate all my torrents (one's that i'm seeding) the speed drops... i've got about 200 active torrents. test out this trick and tell me if you get it to work. colbond
Having the same problem and the same workaround seems to be effective. If I have dozens of torrents seeding my downloads are under 1kBps. If I pause the seeding torrents I get 5MBps+ download. djalekks
Any updates? Lowering downloads to just 1 or 2 helped but I don't want this to be a permanent solution. How do you clear the utorrent cache on the mac?
unixvik
I have the same problem. Switched to Vuze which is 3 times faster.Tested on same torrent with same Macbook Air.uTorrent speed: ~25MB/s Vuze speed: ~65MB/s
llcooljacob
I've been having this problem a lot as well. I've done a lot to try and resolve it but nothing has worked permanently. So far the only thing that has increased my speed was turning off the Local Peer Discovery and Peer Exchange settings on the torrents. That may just help because it decreases the amount of leechers while your seeds remain the same but it's worth a try. I think it also just might be this newer version of uTorrent because at the end of last year after that one update when the app wouldn't open for a lot of people I went back to an older version and never really had a problem downloading anything. Recently I updated to the newest version because I figured everything was sorted and now I seem to be having the same speed problems. A lot of times the speed stays between .5 and 1 kbp/s and then will spike up to near 400 kbp/s and then almost immediately drop back down. Or, depending on how many seeders are available I'll get a semi-steady download stream at around 200 kbp/s. Both are an issue because my download speed is somewhere around 65 mbp/s. Any serious solutions would be much obliged!
