katsu_ramen15
I just upgraded to 50mbps internet a few days ago and I am not getting the Down speeds I want. The fastest I've seen was 2.0 MBps. I've seen other people with the same internet as me with 6+MBps Down. What could be the issue? Is this normal? Also I'm downloading over Wi-Fi instead of LAN but I upgraded to a pretty decent router.

katsu_ramen15
What happens if you try with default values? I figured it out. Turns out my Wifi is way slower than ethernet which is weird because I ran a speed test on Wifi and I was getting 49 Mbps but when I plugged my laptop in via ethernet my down speeds skyrocketed to 7+ MBps. Any idea why I wouldn't be getting full downspeed on Wifi?
torrentmaster123
Most likely it is the router itself. What is the brand/model of your current router? To get that kind of speed (50+mbps) it will take a relatively expensive router. Are you also using Verizon FiOS?
Alexandru_877
There is no good wi-fi, you will never get proper internet over wi-fi.I hit this problem long ago. It's hard to explain here but WI-fi devices cannot have the power they need to properly transmit data, it's not legal because of health hazards. They will suffer over the background noise and will have a hard time to deliver the reliability and quality of a wired connection. With the torrents, the number of concurrent connections and many small packages kill the wifi speed. That device is relatively simple, made for speed over a single connection, small distances and no background noise. That's how you get the advertised speed. But that is not real internet. In the real world wi-fi has major latency and flexibility issues. There is nothin you can do, nothin you can buy to make it better.Don't belive people that tell you 1000 mbps whatever router is better. You will have the same issues, speed and quality of connection. On the contrary, the more advertised performance, the more overhead on things like torrents, the larger the difference between advertised and real world performance.
