Think I've accidentally deleted something important!

I think I may have deleted something I shouldn't have using CleanMyMac.

I was deleting some files from my trash and CleanMyMac asked me to authenticate which I did. Next thing uTorrent won't open. So I uninstalled the app and re-downloaded from the site. It seems to install fine but when I double click the icon to open it says: uTorrent cannot be opened because of a problem. The details state:

"dyld error: library not loaded. Reason: image not found."

Amongst a lot of other stuff  :(

Anyone got any idea what the problem is and what I should do to solve it??

Thanks!!

I just started having this exact same issue this morning as well. uTorrent was running fine, then I closed it. When I went to reopen it a short time later, suddenly "uTorrent cannot be opened because of a problem". I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times, no luck.

Dyld Error Message:
  Library not loaded: /usr/lib/libc++.1.dylib
  Referenced from: /Applications/uTorrent.app/Contents/MacOS/uTorrent
  Reason: image not found

Hello! Same here (postet this in the wrong section before; sorry for that)

uTorrent will not start since last night. I was downloading a few files, after that I quit uTorrent. About half an hour later uTorrent was not able to start again. I tried a few times, no chance. I did a restart of my mac, uTorrent did not start again. I reinstalled the application "successfully" but uTorrent did not start again.

Mac OS X 10.6.8, uTorrent 1.8.6

Console-Log:

So I checked my 2 day old backup (uTorrent worked at the time this backup was done) and there is also is no "libc++.1.dylib". So I booted my backup and tried to start uTorrent, now I got the same problem there.

uTorrent ran perfectly till yesterday night. And now not even the 2 day old backup version is able to start?

That does not make any sense to me.  Help anyone?! Thanks

I had the same problem last night. I deleted utorrent and reinstalled it but it made no difference, it just wont open. I noticed that my Safari homepage had also reset itself to the default Yahoo page when I always have it on Google. I haven't deleted anything and can't remember if I've downloaded any software updates this week but I'm wondering if what caused my homepage to reset is the same thing blocking utorrent??

I had the same thing after reinstallation of uTorrent.

It seems that the uTorrent installer also installed Spigot-extensions in every browser on the system (WTF!?). You need to delete the extension via Safari / preferences and set your homepage again.

Same thing happened to me yesterday. I did not delete any files -- everything was working fine until last night and now uTorrent will not open. I also reinstalled the program and that stupid Spigot thing was also installed (I did not read the disclaimer; you can uncheck a box so that Spigot will not be added during installation). The reinstall did not help. Hope this gets fixed soon.

For several days I've been trying to fix the problem that the current Mac release, 1.8.6, CAN NOT RUN ON OS X 10.6.8, at least on Mac Book Pros. (I have always declined the installation of other software so have nothing to say re any problems caused by the spigot-extensions). The library libc++.1.dylib is not part of the standard 10.6.8 install. Unfortunately the MacPorts current release of libcxx installs a version of libc++.1.dylib which results in slightly different error messages:(selected portions)

Process:         uTorrent [22693]

Path:            /Applications/uTorrent.app/Contents/MacOS/uTorrent

Identifier:      com.bittorrent.uTorrent

Version:         ??? (???)

Code Type:       X86 (Native)

Parent Process:  launchd [118]

.....

Date/Time:       2014-10-30 14:28:55.061 -0700

OS Version:      Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)

Report Version:  6

....

Dyld Error Message:

 Library not loaded: /usr/lib/libc++.1.dylib

 Referenced from: /Applications/uTorrent.app/Contents/MacOS/uTorrent

 Reason: no suitable image found.  Did find:

    /usr/lib/libc++.1.dylib: mach-o, but wrong architecture

    /usr/lib/libc++.1.dylib: mach-o, but wrong architecture

I am trying to find out what architecture is needed for the I.8.6 version of uTorrent for Mac. Then I will attempt to determine if there is away to get the MacPorts libcxx package to include versions of the libraries for this architecture.

I have occasionally over the past few months tried to update to the 1.8.6 release of uTorrent for Mac. All of these have resulted in a failure to start and an error report which began like my excerpt above. Because of the 4th line "Version: ??? (???)", prior to yesterday, I assumed some low level undiagnosable problem was occurring and never read down to see the dyld error message. Since I had and earlier version, 1.8.2(29019) installed under the app name uTorrent_1_8_2(29019) I never lost access to some working version.

1.8.6 ran perfectly on a MacBook Pro 4.1 (Early2008) with 10.6.8 until 16 hours ago!

That Spigot stuff came only through the (careless?) reinstallation of uTorrent after it stopped working 16 hours ago and should not have anything to do with the libc++ problem.

Something changed at the uTorrent startup. I have an even older backup (~30-40 days ago). I will try uTorrent without internet connection and I am pretty sure it will start. I will report the result! Makes no sense that the software now needs a lib that has never existed on this system. It ran fine without that file for the last weeks/months (I dont remember the last update).

Something in the uTorrent startup process must have changed...?!

@ dlrag: i guess i was wrong and you might be right! I checked my older backup and there was the 1.8.4 and this must be the last version i knowingly installed.

I copied the 1.8.4 on my system and it started without problems but after closing the app the version changed from 1.8.4 to 1.8.6 and it does not start anymore (libc++). "Check for updates" was disabled and there was no update-dialog. Whaaat?!

Update's to my Oct 31 reply:

Here's an addition to my reply above which I added in a reply to "Utorrent wont work on my mac 10.6.8" recently posted to Troubleshooting(Mac):

Since that time I've determined that all builds of 1.8.6 (at least when installed on Mac Book Pros under 10.6.8) are built for i386 rather than u86_64.  Also while MacPorts libcxx claims to support both i386 and u86_64, requesting an install of a universal version of libc++.1.dylib results in a long preparation of universal versions of many prerequisite apps and then a failure when it comes to building the universal version of libc++.1.dylib. So I've not yet been able to suggest a solution. The work around of installing an earlier version, <=1.8.4 all seem to have worked on 10.6.8, seems to be best at present.  Personally before I install a new version I always manually rename /Applications/uTorrent.app to /Applications/uTorrent_#_##_###(build no), where version no of uTorrent is #.##.###.

------------------------------------------------

If you have any Time Machine or other backup of an earlier running version of uTorrent you might be able to restore that version of /Applications/uTorrent.app.
