schnurlos
The only true way not to tell your ISP what you are downloading is to unplug your cable ...Everything you run via internet is going through their servers - so somebody ever will know what you do. And to avoid those Copyright Letters don't download Copyright materials it's that easy.
Bender5.0
With respect to other posters I disagree what is being asked is outside the scope of utorrent in this forum. The very use of the program (as many people choose to use it) is considered illegal in many countries - so it makes sense that someone would come here to seek how to protect themselves in general. Once said, I do not believe anyone here is suggesting you use the product illegally, or in any way law enforcement would consider unacceptable. I do not condone or support the downloading of any copyrighted material. More so, if you find something that you like, I ask that you go and buy it. Being it any type of software or media I also agree that the best answer has been given - ie: unplug. But since that's not a solution to the problem, I propose another for the purposes of knowledge and your right to privacy. Obtain a subscription to a vpn via a company that doesn't keep logs, (ideally) shares public ip (so traffic cannot be isolated to a single user) and configure it correctly - ie: If the vpn product fails and looses its connection, then it should stop ALL network activity beyond your local subnet or computer. There are a few on the market that provide this and don't care what you use it for. However the only one I that seems to tick all the boxes is Private Intern et Access. I don't work for them or have any affiliation. Pro'sThere's a mac version.Price is fair. They have a lot of servers globally according to reviews of their services. They claim to not keep logs and share public ip's between many customers. They have an inbuilt kill switch (if you enable it) to stop all traffic if the vpn fails or is disconnected. They provide decent encryption Down sides:They are not free. You will have to be patient. Although they have servers in Australia, I suggest you do not use them. Why is because the hosting data centres may keep logs of connecting ip under the law your government passed a few months back. If they do, then there's a risk your connection may be logged. So cover yourself and use a point of present somewhere closer - like Asia. Trial and error will tell you which servers give the most speed - but don't expect more than 5mbps unless the torrent is heavily seeded and the server you're connected to is light on workload. The service doesn't have a tls or ssl option to encapsulate your vpn traffic. Why that's a neg is because your isp can see you are making a vpn connection (if they look) and they can see where it's going to - but they can't see the content. Some vpn providers allow you to wrap your vpn in a ssl blanket - now the isp only sees an ssl connection - which is far more common and not likely to draw attention. The service will fall over from time to time. So enable the kill switch.
PiusX
@Bender5.0 What they are asking is beyond the scope of utorrent and what it does that is something they must figure out and not have others be complicit in their activities. If you use utorrent to get legit files like OpenOffice and others - I doubt their ISP or letters from DMCA cares about those kinda files. VPN also keeps logs of your activiies so don't think for one moment they don't know and others will state in their agreement they will terminate VPN accounts if they find torrent usage on them and I seen a poster on here asking why their VPN doesn't work anymore and then find out it's because they used it for torrenting and got their account suspended. This was a teacher of whom should've known better-their excuse was oh I turned off VPN to use my own internet and I was like how would those of us know that was even true. So don't think VPN will have their rules as well for torrenting and those come with a cost to use VPN.
