Yet another victim of the DHT error! [waiting for announce]

I've been using uT for years now, and I've never had an issue. Then simply one day I try to download something, and BOOM! nothing will download! Open Office doesn't seem to work in my case either. I've considered that it may be dead trackers, but no matter what torrent I try to download, the same issue is still present.

Currently using version 2.2.1

To clear things up, I've done my homework. I'm pretty sure I've read every relevant thread on this board to no avail. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, deleting dht.dat, checking firewall and antivirus settings, hell, I've even gone so far as to reinstall a fresh copy of Windows 7! You name it, I've done it! (As far as I know :cool:) Still, the problem persists. I know it's not my ISP, because I have another PC on the same network that works just fine with uT. The strange thing about all of this is that no changes were made to the system in any way before the onset of the issue. Interestingly enough, even assuming a change were inadvertently made, I would assume a reformatted HDD and a fresh install of Windows 7 would solve the issue! For me, formatting the drive is my ace-in-the-hole for PC problems I can not solve. That being said, I've resorted to posting my own thread, which will hopefully have more success than the other threads I've come across featuring the same issue.

Also, it may be worth noting that the issue only arose after one queued download completed. When the next one on the list was automatically started, was when the issue arose.

I've already visited http://torrenthelp.depthstrike.com/2007/11/utorrent-dht-troubleshooting.html, also to no avail. From what I've read on most of the other threads with the same or similar issues, the aforementioned link doesn't seem to solve the issue at hand.

Make sure symantec isn't blocking DHT traffic. In fact, make sure it's allowing ALL traffic for uT. Try restarting uT after you check your Symantec settings.

I created a rule in Symantec firewall to allow all traffic through uT.

I'm glad to have my problem solved but I'm a little disappointed to see that the solution was so simple all along. I mean, I didn't even need to reinstall Windows 7!

Also, the question remains: How did this problem arise? I've been using uT and Symantec side-by-side for quite some time now.

I am having the same problem (but I'm just using windows firewall) but I have an exception made and checked and i still have the problem, i can't figure it out.

Prior to resolving my issue, I had checked my Windows Firewall settings and the exceptions were all there and all configured properly, yet the issue still persisted.

Are you using any anti-virus, etc programs?

had the same trouble here on bittorent on win 7

got it fine working again by simply going to inbound rules of the firewall and disable the bittorent udp and tcp rules and enable them again

I have a fix "sort of"...

I also had now problems with utorrent until just around September of 2013 when all of a sudden my utorrent under Windows 7 x64 and my ttorrent Android app quit working. After adding any torrent it would refuse to start downloading and "trackers" DHT wold just sit at "waiting for announce...". I was using WiFi and neither my location or a another location I tried would work and neither my laptop or my Android tTorrent would work UNTIL....

I shut off WiFi and started up data on my phone and either created a hotsopt of teathered the connection to my computer. Note that my Android only required me to shut off "WiFi" and start up "Data" and also go into the tTorrent "Netork settings" and allow a "Network usage" of "Any available connection". Normally I would only allow WiFi". At any rate when dealing with Windows 7 I had to setup a teathered DATA connection.

I would not have to leave the slower DATA connection going for ever, but just until things got rolling along. At that point I would turn WiFi back on and shut "Data" off or stop the teathered connection.

I have know idea what happened to start the problem or if it's a software bug, ISP problem or what but it doesn't sound like someone all of a sudden started blocking ports or whatever (uTorrent didn't work at either site I tried and it didn't work with either OS (Windows7 or Android)). I am also using two different applications, one Windows 7 uTorrent and one Android tTorrent). I do believe that both locations I tried use "True Move" as their ISP. I'm in Bangkok Thailand.

I hope this helps pin point the problem and a real fix can be had soon.

If it works on one provider and not another (which is your case) it is NOT a software bug in uTorrent.

Not unless uTorrent and tTorrent (I also tried Bittorrent) are not processing some new condition generated by say "True Move" and not generated by "AIS" which is the source of my "DATA" connection. It may be the ISP that is all of a sudden causing the problem but it's unlikely one could get them to fix things. I doub't if many ISP's like torrent's. I guess it could also be DHT that isn't playing well. I can't say I know the coding involved to get things rolling in a torrent. I can find a work around but I try to debug and correct what isn't mine.

Others have suggested deleting setting and dat files and reinstalling uTorrent but that was not a fix for me.

If it works on your cellular provider and not your hardline one, it's not uTorrent that's the cause.
