µTorrent Server 3.0 alpha build 27079 (for Linux) - x64

When we started our Idea Bank a few months ago, a Linux version was immediately the most requested feature, and has stayed #1 ever since. This morning, we are announcing a preview release of the first of two new products for Linux users. µTorrent Server, an alpha version available immediately for download here, is intended for users seeking a fast, commandline only BitTorrent client with remote web-based management.  If you prefer a more traditional experience, rest assured we are working hard to build a full-featured GUI client.

This is a native Linux port and is known to work on Ubuntu 10.10 and Debian 5.0.  Others may work, but they are not officially supported. Kernel 2.6.13 or newer required. This is for native 64-bit systems.
For trackers who whitelist, the user agent is uTorrent/300B(build#)(server)
The peerid is identical to the Windows 3.0 client. They share version numbers because of a common codebase.

Ubuntu 10.10 build x64 (27079)
Ubuntu 12.04 build x64 (27079)

Debian 5.0 build x64 (old - 25376)

Ubuntu 10.10 build requires openssl 0.9.8.
Ubuntu 12.04 build requires openssl 1.0.

Each version is the same version of µTorrent, but build on two different platforms. The Debian version has an older glibc requirement than the Ubuntu build, so try it out if your distro has an older glibc.

If you'd like to be notified of new releases, please subscribe to the release notification thread.

Release Notes

  • Native Linux port!

  • Headless daemon with WebUI support for remote management

  • Native 64-bit release

Known Issues

  • Guest mode support is broken in the web UI and/or the server

  • BEP22 isn't supported on POSIX platforms

  • There's no table of contents in the PDF form of the user manual

  • Checking for and reporting that product updates are available isn't supported yet

  • The web UI doesn't show an indication when a setting change fails to apply because the proposed value was invalid

  • The web UI doesn't show an indicator if the port is blocked by a firewall

  • The web UI doesn't provide control of RSS actions supported by the server

  • The web UI doesn't show status and error messages generated by the server

Changelog:

Server edition-specific changes are noted below. Changes that apply to all versions of µTorrent can be found in docs/Changes.txt in the tarball.

Serve-specific changes are now found in the tarball.

Re: µTorrent Server 3.0 alpha build 27079 (for Linux) - x64

I'm getting the error:
Error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

(This is with the debian 5.0 build)

However, the library is on the system on various places:
SYSTEM:/usr/local/utorrent# find / | grep libssl.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/i586/libssl.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/i486/libssl.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/vmware/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/vmware/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8/libssl.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/vmware-vix/lib/VIServer-2.0.0/32bit/libssl.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/vmware-vix/lib/VSphere-4.0/32bit/libssl.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/vmware-vix/lib/Workstation-6.5.0/32bit/libssl.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/vmware-vix/lib/Workstation-6.5.2/32bit/libssl.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/vmware-vix/lib/Workstation-6.5.1/32bit/libssl.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/i686/cmov/libssl.so.0.9.8

This is on a Netgear ReadyNAS with x86_64 kernel.

Any suggestions?

Re: µTorrent Server 3.0 alpha build 27079 (for Linux) - x64

does it have the i386 libs installed?

FAQ and Search - Use them.
If guides ask for info, provide it before I have to ask for it.

Yes they are, but this is a native 64bit build, so that should not be needed(I think).

The 32bit client works fine, but i'm running a old version because recent versions tend to crash(or running at 100% CPU) a lot more, so I would like to try this one smile

The "Debian 5.5 Build" is now working now on RedHat ES 5.6.
The "Ubuntu 10.10 Build" will not work on RedHat ES 5.6.

Also, you'll need to do the following before starting up "./utserver":

ln -s /lib64/libssl.so.0.9.8e /lib64/libssl.so.0.9.8
ln -s /lib64/libcrypto.so.0.9.8e /lib64/libcrypto.so.0.9.8

This is excellent. Works with the FireFox uTorrent Add-on.

This keeps keeling over and outputing this to the command line

Segmentation fault

does not get very far in the logs:

[03:57:54]  Using locale en_GB.UTF-8
[03:57:54]  total physical memory 536870912 max disk cache 33554432
[03:57:54]  Loaded ipfilter.dat (0 entries)

Reply here if you want me to find any more details in order find the bugs...

Try setting logmask: 0xffffffff in the configuration file, then run the program again until crash, then submit the log messages that you see (hopefully they will indicate something interesting) together with the contents of your configuration file.

Also, in the future, I'd prefer if you submitted problem reports to the troubleshooting section of the uTorrent Linux area of the forum.

Is anybody seeing slow seeding in uTorrent Server, either via uTP or TCP?  Slow, as in 5-20 KB/sec.

Yep, but not always. And i have one more issue, utserver crashing when i try to check hash on some files with names like "02 (hd).m4v". Other BT client hashes this files without problems

Can you provide a reference to a torrent file for which this occurs?

Yep, but not always.

Can you try recording the current value of bt.transp_disposition, then setting bt.transp_disposition to 5, and see if you still see slow seeding?
