How to customize :
Go to :
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\uTorrent, (where Username is your Windows username. ).
Find, cut and paste in a new folder in the same place (for saving) :
tabs.bmp
toolbar.bmp
tstatus.bmp
main.ico
tray.ico
Paste all the new files and restart µTorrent

I am using Vista, so you know and for me it is in C:\Users\Username\Application Data\uTorrent
Fresh installed using the utorrent install program made that directory and adds all the things in it.

The files aren't there to begin with -- you're supposed to put them there.

Luxo looks close to the status.. but this set is VERY 3D. Note: The BLACK does not show up. Gotta love alpha channel

Which one(s) were you trying to download? The ones on http://utorrent.com/skins.php work for me, and that you can SEE the others, is proof they were uploaded correctly... Have you tried, right click, save as, on those two labelled "bumpy's" above?
