Spokje
Hello,I read this in the wiki FAQ:diskio.coalesce_writes tries to minimize the number of calls to WriteFile. It doesn't have any effect at all on download speed, but it might cause marginally less disk writes (at the expense of more memory / CPU).Default this option is set on 'false'. If i set it on true, will it do the above? ^^I used to run BitComet, and Utorrent seems slightley faster. Bitcomet allocated 6-50 MB of memory for cashing files before writing them to the Harddrive. This is less stressful for the drive.Does diskio.coalesce_writes the same? Cause i don't mind if Utorrent uses 3 MB of memory or 50 What are the optimal settings for saving the harddrive ? DomZ
I don't think thats what it does, it's something to do with clusters if I remember what ludde said. The option for 6-50mb in cache is diskio.write_queue_size I believe.
Firon
It's what it does, because that's what ludde told me.
Ares
It's what it does, because that's what ludde told me. So what exactly is the difference between diskio.coalesce_writes and diskio.write_queue_size?Does the first simply enable the use of the second? *confused*-Ares
Firon
No, the coalesce writes simply tries to write slightly less often.
Ares
What does a setting of diskio.write_queue_size of "-1" do? And what are the available options?Thanks,-Ares
Firon
What do all those advanced settings do?

NotALamer
Coalesce writes tries to limit the number of write system calls by writing larger contiguous blocks at once. For example, instead of writing five 20kb blocks in a row as soon as it gets them, it would try to wait for them all then write 100kb with one call.
