DreadWingKnight
uninstall zonealarm. it is THE cause of this issue.
gmansd
can i reinstall it afterwards...don't see to purpose of uninstalling software that I paid for for software that is free to use seems like utorrent has to many problems with zonealarm that they should just fix
DreadWingKnight
Considering that ZoneAlarm's problems aren't just with uT, it's not uT's problem to fix.
Firon
Zone Alarm is the broken software here, causing problems with just about every P2P app there. Its True Vector service even crashes computers, and with the latest security update for Windows, completely breaks your internet.
Switeck
Zone Alarm...is beyond bad:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=271767#p271767
d3m0n1k
So ZoneAlarm is the issue even if it is not indsalled?I never used ZoneAlarm and my uTorrent uses over a gig of ram AND never shuts off.The problem is uTorrent. Not ZoneAlarm.
DreadWingKnight
Your issue may not be the same.
d3m0n1k
I understand that. It is just bizarre to have utorrent use over a gig of ram then not shut off at all.
bandiit
Not using zone alarm at all and never used, but still uTorrent doesn't end its processes on its own.

Firon
Just post a HijackThis log. Though it's probably F-Secure's fault.
bandiit
so? F-Secure stays anyway (in the world , I mean). can't you make software to take that in consideration?
Firon
A lot of the time, you can't really workaround bugs in kernel-mode software (firewalls and AV apps).
lokikol
Right click the uTorrent in the tray and goto exitdone and done
bertmace
It is happening in xp also with norton 360-2 have to kill the process to stop it. it started after 1.7.7 I hope it gets fixed soon!!!
kinkbear
It looks like this is happening only if app is opened from a browser link to add a new torrent. Not seeing the bug if app is opened/closed manually. Hope this is helpful to the developers.
thelittlefire
So you've removed the possibility it's you AV injected into the utorrent.exe process? http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992 (Process Explorer DLL list at the bottom)
MaxyDawg
Does anyone know of a good security suite that does work with uTorrent? ZoneAlarm Security Suite is a bitch, but we get a free subscription on our computers because of my dad's company's requirements for doing work from home. I also have the problem. ZoneAlarm Security Suite 8.0.015, Vista Home Premium SP1, uTorrent 1.8.1.
moogly
ZA is crappy, that's the culprit. Remove it. Especially ZA + Vista.2 posts here and the link in the 2nd one:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=386428#p386428
MaxyDawg
Cool, thanx, but does anyone have any recommendations for free AntiVirus/AntiSpyware? (Kinda why I mentioned that I use the suite...)
Ultima
Free antivirus can bee filled by AntiVir (free-av.com). Free firewall... Comodo (comodo.com). Free antispyware... well, I'm not really sure, but there are plenty of free ones out there.
Stevew0191
I had same problem but am running Windows 7 ultimate and found this on another forum, it worked for me, hope it helps others. 1. Right-click the uTorrent client on your Desktop. 2. Click Properties from the context menu. 3. Now, click the Compatibility tab. 4. Tick the Run this program as an administrator box. 5. Tick the Run this program in compatibility mode for box and, at the same time, select the Windows Vista option. 6. Now open uTorrent. 7. Click Preferences. 8. Click the Advanced section. 9. Select Disk Entry located on the left. 10. Tick the Disable Windows caching of disk writes and Disable Windows caching of disk reads boxes. 11. Click OK.
