Distributed UDP hole punching for the BitTorrent protocol

A very easy method how to enable NAT traversal without the need to modify the Trackers.

Re: Distributed UDP hole punching for the BitTorrent protocol

The µTorrent 1.8 changelog wrote:

--- 2009-02-04: Version 1.9 (build 14470)
- Change: 'h' peer flag for connections via hole-punching

--- 2008-12-20: Version 1.9 (build 13885)
- Feature: NAT hole-punching (for uTP only)

NAT hole punching was always a part of the plan when uTP was being implemented, and as a result, hole punching has been included in µTorrent 1.9 for a long while now. Yes, using other peers as STUN servers is part of the equation too.

I never claimed to be nice.

Re: Distributed UDP hole punching for the BitTorrent protocol

Not yet, the protocol is still being worked on.

FAQ and Search
Use them.

Chances are, I'm not in the mood for runarounds. If guides ask for info. Provide it before I have to ask for it.

Re: Distributed UDP hole punching for the BitTorrent protocol

Something similar could be done with Teredo, but I don't know how well that's documented either. sad

Teredo is handled automagically.
