Beautiful so far..

(although there's something about the green "Done" progress bar UI render I don't like, not sure what would be better but the contrast between bright top and darker bottom seems too great and not as subtle looking as it could be)

Well, to be honest, its looks absolutely hideous O_O. So cluttered, color toolbar icons (is it 2003 again?) and progress bar colors/stroke look terrible.

The older appearance is very clean and simple - thats why I like it.

Edit: I though I'd add on the functionality :P

Good that it can show the speed graph and additional info in the general tab, I like the average speed meter. Some interface glitches though: the speed graph overlapped with the buttons (tabs?) no matter how I resize the window, can't scroll in the general tab, so to see the whole info sheet I have to make the whole field visible. Crashed the moment I went into Peers tab.

From top to bottom:

- new icons look horrible. In a utility app like this, previous ones were just perfect. Revert them, or design a Mac-looking ones.

- there was no reason to change standard column design - they don't look good in current OS look, but better than this.

- tab design sucks all the way.

- display area bellow tabs is beautiful in it's simplicity.

Also, new progress bar looks better, but it should remain green.

Overall, it doesn't look like a native Mac app anymore.

Selecting the categories on the left doesn't do what it's supposed to, just nothing happens at all. Otherwise, it's great to see the Labels are finally here, but they're currently useless due to the aforementioned bug.

About the interface - the green and blue progress bar colors (both in columns and in the General tab) are way too much in your face, too intensive and plastic-looking. A more translucent look would be more pleasing (like the green lamp that indicates the port is open). I like the tabs in general, although the old design was better in my opinion. The icons on the toolbar are definitely not looking good. Old ones were just ok. I mean, look at Safari, Mail, or even Firefox for Mac. Their icons are in harmony with the grey window frames and toolbars. These bright colorful buttons just don't blend in nicely, they look like some Firefox skin for Windows. A mouse-over effect would be nice too (see Mail.app).

Just switched from Vuze to µTorrent (finally). Here are my comments/issues with 0.9.3 and/or µTorrent in general (some of which have been mentioned b4 and others may qualify as feature requests):

- The toolbar buttons looked better and more Mac native in 0.9.2 (for new users this creates a feeling of familiarity - learned that in UI class)

- The categories on the left are non-functional

- Like the main window's columns

- The (done) progress bar colors don't fit the Mac native look (they're okay, but Mac native is better - see above comment)

- Much better use of tabs in the details portion of the window

- The column settings in the details (i.e. Files) are not saved on close

- Can only move downloads up or down via the right-click contextual menu - why no buttons in the toolbar?

- Still no way to force a re-test of TCP port connectivity

- Still seeds forever

Anyway, I'll keep using µTorrent while all this stuff gets dealt with... Vuze is just too demanding on my mac's resources (it's a 2009 Mac Pro, but I run BOINC projects so I need CPU and memory for them). Keep up the great work!

PS - I've worked with Objective-C in XCode and with the Interface Builder (was on iPhone app but can easily adapt to OS X apps) so if some help is needed just give me a shout (don't have much time - university - but will do what I can if asked).

0.9.3 still cancels the restart of Mac OS X. (this was the reason I tested out this beta version, see if it was fixed)

Categories on the left don't work.

I prefer the UI in 0.9.2 over the current.

Thanks for the hard work, everyone. Been using Utorrent for years (before I had my mac, back in the days of windows)

Have to say that the Utorrent new user interface feels a lot more organised and similar to the windows version but the icons need to be changed in my opinion.

@compexpert: You can let utorrent seed to a certain ratio though by pressing the download/upload ratio display. This will let a menu pop up which lets you choose the ratio you want.

First of all thank you very much guys for the new version. Secondly, I noticed some kind of a bug which happens occasionally. uTorrent woks flawlessly and then just quits with no particular reason. No error messages shown, nothing. It just silently quits and that's it. Had this thingy a couple of times already. Trying to figure out the possible reasons. So far without any results.

I have an iMac 24" with 3,06GHz Intel Core2Duo processor, 2GB RAM, running Mac OS X 10.6.1.

Keep up the good work!

To be honest, I don't like it either. The whole interface feels clunky and not mac-like now. The old interface had a much nicer feel. I don't like the odd sunken progress bars, or the appearance of the tabs. And the grey colour of the tab background is very monotone and there isn't enough contrast between the grey background and the white text.

I'm sorry, I know a lot of time has gone into this, but it really doesn't do it for me.

I like it! I love the bottom section (details) and the whole app has that "pro app" look to it. I think if you reduced the luminosity of the icons and colors (so they're less glaring) people who have complained would like it more :) The red & green color, in particular in icons and the bottom section, is very bright. I'd reduce their saturation.

But overall, the app is now looking closer and closer to having the features of its Win cousin. I friggin love it!

Awesome job guys!!!!

uTorrent started crashing today with no error message, just quits silently within several minutes after launch. The console shows this message:

24.10.09 13:47:13 [0x0-0x2f02f].com.bittorrent.uTorrent[283] release assert /Users/theron/devel/release/osx/trunk/NuTorrent/../uT-core/kevhandler.h:35 (16930)

I will agree with opinions above.

Previous interface was closer to mac-style and looks better.

Grey icons on toolbar in previous version are quite good, imho no need to change them.

Although i should say that FileView is more comfortable in new version.

It will good to add FileType icons too.

I also like idea with labels.

And thank you for your hard work!

Good job guys!

*Labels = very good (once they are working). Would be nice to have the option to colour code them like in Transmission. I need to filter my torrents!

*I really would love to have a proper scheduler! The one in the windows version of uTorrent is very intuitive and simple, so please just copy that idea!

*I probably prefer the visuals in the beta too

*The incoming TCP ports dialogue is buggy. It doesn't remember the previous number you entered and even when the correct open port is entered, the status indicator shoes up yellow.

*Would be nice to see the transfer speeds in the dock icon.

Thanks!

Hi,

Thank you for this wonderful work.

I tested this new version from a few days and I hope that my comments may help.

Firstly, the biggest problem is that the application crashes without warning and without any message. This happens regularly without fixed time interval. 8 times in three days.

This happens with 1, 2 or 3 torrents in progress that will either download or upload.

I'm on a MacBookPro 2.4 Ghz with 4 GB of RAM under OSX 10.5.8 with an internet connection fiber optic cable of 100Mb. I also use Little Snitch.

The TCP port is open and the automatic mapping works. The preference settings are standard.

With the console, the following messages appear after the crash:

28/10/09 00:51:48 Notice [0x0-0x2db2db].com.bittorrent.uTorrent[12678] release assert /Users/theron/devel/release/osx/trunk/NuTorrent/../uT-core/dht.cpp:1768 (16930) 28/10/09 00:51:49 Warning com.apple.launchd[167] ([0x0-0x2db2db].com.bittorrent.uTorrent[12678]) Exited with exit code: 1

At restart utorrent, the console records the following lines:

I also noticed the following problems:

- The menu in the left pane does not work. The result is the same whatever the choice, the window still displays all the torrents.

- Details of the brook in the bottom part is cut in upper part, even changing its height. All that is over half the bar availability piece is invisible.

- I am not sure that the priority work streams.

At present, my general comments:

- It is true that the icons are not terrible, but it does not matter.

- It would be nice to force checking of the opening of the port.

- It would be nice to be able to adjust the speed upload and download per torrent.

- It is strange to see that there are always trade in download (about 6 kB / s) while the download is complete and only seed; troubling, perhaps it is trade with the leech.

- It is a pity he is no longer possible to see the list of seeds and peers, the tabs may be still there, but hidden (see note above).

- When is a French version?

Thank you, :)

I had an unexpected crash after a couple of hours running 0.9.3 (16930), mostly seeding.
