µTorrent 1.5 released

µTorrent 1.5 is released. An update (build 437) was released today, please re-download it.

This is the biggest release ever. The major changes are of course Peer Exchange and Protocol Encryption, in combination with optimizations to download speed and harddisk accesses.

The biggest GUI change is a new category list that sorts your torrents by label.

no it isn't, they have just added some of the code that is needed in µTorrent for the we GUI,
but the web gui itself isn't finished.

btw, I already see a peer that is using µT 1.5

hah, i didn't even notice that 1.5 came out since i'm so used to looking at the newest beta and ignoring the stable portion of the main page table. oddly enough though, 1.4.2 b435 doesn't tell me to update to 1.5 (436).. bug?

shouldn't the µT version number/build number be what it checks when it looks for an update?

it doesn't auto-update because 1.5 isn't on the auto-updater yet. It will be soon though. (we needed mirrors + load balancing script)

Great work Ludde, so much good stuff in this release compared to 1.4

I also submitted this to Digg here: http://www.digg.com/software/%C2%B5Torr … _released_ if anyone frequents the site Digg it and draw attention to this 'cause once everyone is running 1.5 Encryption gets a whole let more viable for everyone.

Can't wait to see what you've got planned for 1.6 Ludde

Hey, what is Peer Exchange? I read the FAQ, but it doesn't really explain what it is.

I don't want DHT because I use Private Trackers that don't allow DHT, so should I have Peer Exchange turned on?

Thanks Firon, weird that... wonder why it sometimes turns my micro symbol into a weird looking µ thing? character-set issues? I'll look into it.

EDIT: haha has to work the one time I tried to MAKE it do it

Peer Exchange aka PEX will automatically disable if a torrent has a private flag.

Hehe.. You really need mirrors even though the program is only ~150 KB ?

Dawg605: private flag turns off PEX and DHT on a per-torrent basis, you should just leave it on Globally.

tjobo: it's small, but there's a LOT of people getting it at once, hence why we need mirrors.

rowlodge, you mean a  mac version of µTorrent?

Currently no one is working on a mac version of µTorrent,
ludde has enough with work already with the Win version of µTorrent.
