Re: Slow browsing + NOD32 fixed

Sorry, should have said - NOD32 version 3.0.621.0
Didn't have the problem with previous version of NOD32, 2.x.x.x.
Cheers.

Re: Slow browsing + NOD32 fixed

So that's the AV right, not Smart Security? I was wondering whether to update my copy. Still with AV 2.70.39. If you can confirm that there're no problems getting both my favourite programs to co-exist, then I think I'll give it a shot!

Re: Slow browsing + NOD32 fixed

No, not Smart Security, only AV.  No problems now with µTorrent 1.7.5.  Actually downloading @ 300k+ and uploading @35k+ now with no discernible browser slowing down.  Can't think that the fix will cause a problem as NOD32 will still check any completed file downloads when they are opened.
Cheers.

Re: Slow browsing + NOD32 fixed

Ugh... My guess is that that feature is the successor to NOD32 2.7.x's IMON component.

Re: Slow browsing + NOD32 fixed

Thanks a lot. This actually solved my whole problem of not at all being able to surf while using utorrent. As well as slow download speeds. So now the speeds are as before with XP and web browsing works as normal. Great, thanks!

Re: Slow browsing + NOD32 fixed

Seems to work for ESS too. In the same tree in ESS there is the option not to check it in the "to scan" list and then further down the tree in Exclusions you can specifically exclude uTorrent.exe.

Also some help searching for "torrent" on http://www.eset.eu/knowledge-base/

Good luck

Re: Slow browsing + NOD32 fixed

I had this issue right after installing Vista so assumed it was a Vista issue.  I guess I forgot about the fact that I had not used Nod32 v3.0.64 before.  Thanks for the fix!

Re: Slow browsing + NOD32 fixed

what is NOD32?  Is that what AVG uses?

I never claimed to be nice.

Re: Slow browsing + NOD32 fixed

No. NOD32 is ESET Security's antivirus application.

FAQ and Search - Use them.
If guides ask for info, provide it before I have to ask for it.

Re: Slow browsing + NOD32 fixed

NOD32 is from ESET. They are a competitor to AVG's software suite. The difference comes from the IMON-esque feature not being on by default in 3.0

Re: Slow browsing + NOD32 fixed

Check the first link in my signature regarding interrupted connections, and if nothing there helps, provide the requested information in a new thread.

Re: Slow browsing + NOD32 fixed

I tried to exclude utorrent.exe too, but it doesn't work that well.

Try the "Protocol Filtering" thing in Nod32 (NOD32 > Advanced (or whatver sounds like expert mode) >  Antivirus and spyware protection > Configure > Protocol Filtering) and go for "Applications marked as internet browsers and email clients" and NOT "Ports and applications marked as internet browsers and email clients"

I'm trying to figure out if this is better than just excluding utorrent from the applications filtered by NOD32.

Please note that it means that NOD32 will not look out for "threats" on some open ports on your machine, which is a possible drawback. I hope this helps.

edit: note: i'm using Vista SP1 and Firefox 3b5 with utorrent 1.8b9704

Re: Slow browsing + NOD32 fixed

I have had exactly this problem with uTorrent 1.7.7/build 8179 with eset smart security 3.0.642.0. Everything was fine, not even aware I had updated any software and suddenly internet browsing (ie 7 on Vista) stopped. Web site found, pages were loading very slowly, if at all.

Updated to Vista SP1, no difference.

Thanks to the posts here, it improved dramatically when unchecking uTorrent as a web browser, but it was still very slow.

I disabled the Web Access Protection in eset completely and everything now running beautifully.

But is anyone aware of an "option in the middle" to allow eset WAP to function with uTorrent - it would be good to have eset WAP enabled!
Thanks...
