relatively high seeds and availability, dl in mere kb?
SO, I have never had a problem downloading things with utorrent. Everything usually downloads pretty fast. I always make sure to check seeders/leachers and the availability of the item as well before downloading. I am currently downloading a fairly large file of 24GB. My seeds are at 36 and my availability is 34.67. Under the settings that I have maintained since I have had utorrent, I normally would be getting up to around 1M/s under these settings and with these seeds and availability. But I am not. Instead I have consistently been downloading at a speed of 9k/s for the last 24 hours. I have had similar problems before but it smooths itself out within an hour or so and downloads at it's normal rate. Why could this particular file be taking so long? As I have said I have not changed anything, and normally with these numbers download much faster. Just to be sure, here are my settings and my current readings on the active downloads screen.
Bandwidth:
Automatically manage bandwidth - check
Upload limit 0
Download limit 0
BitTorrent:
Global limit 200
per torrent limit 50
peers enable DHT - check
enable PEX - check
active transfer limits 8
active DL limits 5
outgoing encryption disabled
Network:
TCP port 23721
checked automatically map port
Here are my readings on the active downloads bar:
Size : 24.1
Done: 1%
Status: Downloading
Seeds: 33 (758)
Peers: 5 (777)
DL speed: 6.7 kb/s
UL speed: 67.4 kB/s
ETA: 4w 4d
Uploaded: 369.2 MB
Ratio: 1.075
Availability: 33.444
As I said I normally can DL at/around 1MB/s at these settings. With 33 seeds and 33.4 availability I don't understand why it is downloading so slow.

Re: relatively high seeds and availability, dl in mere kb?
I'd recommend you enable "outgoing encryption".
Because torrent traffic is very expensive for your ISP's hardware (they have to route and direct lots of connections), they might've decided to cut down your speed.
Some people have their "outgoing encryption" forced, meaning they'll refuse to communicate with other clients, that do not encrypt. Again, you might want to enable encryption.
You should also set an "Upload limit", because in order to download, you need to first ask for the piece you're interested in, meaning you'll have to upload a message to a peer. If you're using your entire upstream to seed torrents, there might not be enough upstream for communication purposes, which often negatively affect downloads (and the network in general, like your web browser getting slow).
Since you said, you had no problems with these settings before, my best guess would be, that either your ISP is now throttling your traffic, or the seeds are snubbing you, because you're not encrypting your connection.
I hope I could help you.

Re: relatively high seeds and availability, dl in mere kb?
What should I limit the upload speed to then? I have also now deleted and started re-downloading a file that I downloaded 2 weeks ago, that at the time downloaded within half an hour. It is now giving an ETA of 5hrs and downloading at the same rate as the large file that inspired this post (~9.2kb/s). But this file after selecting as suggested to encrypt outgoing, is now not uploading, at all.

Re: relatively high seeds and availability, dl in mere kb?
You should limit your upload speed to about 80% of your maximum upload speed.
That your torrent isn't uploading at all after encrypting traffic is odd. This shouldn't be happening.
But if after redownloading an older torrent, its speed is as low as your newer one, then something must have changed on your end.
Did you update uTorrent (some people seem to have speed issues with the newer uTorrent builds), or maybe did you install a new firewall?
Also, we can't entirely dismiss the possibility, that the problem lies within your ISP. Try running some speed tests, with uTorrent active and without.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help.
EDIT: Just to be sure: do you have uPnP activated on both uTorrent and your router?

Re: relatively high seeds and availability, dl in mere kb?
i have the same problems i have 3 big files downloading at 1-3 kb/s max but in vure they are siting at 20-100kb/s its only started happening over the last 1-3 weeks. i think uterrent is the best but if its going to take 1 year for a file that should only take a week or so to download i think i will have to stick with vuze for now. ![]()

Re: relatively high seeds and availability, dl in mere kb?
I did not update. Also I tested my speeds with and without utorrent running. The speed tests consistently showed around 4-5MB for download speed. I do have uPnP activated on both.
*Update: At some point the DL speed spiked in the last 45 minutes ( I was sleeping.) But I woke up to speeds of 450kb/s. But shortly after I looked at it, it dropped again to below 200kb/s. These download speeds look very shaky and inconsistent on the mapper. About 50 minutes ago the DL speed was completely flat lined at zero for an unknown amount of time as again, I was sleeping. IDK. I am just going to wait it out and let it DL. It's kinda bs that I have a 4MB connection and am DLing so slow, but w/e.
