Completed torrents often show as not complete.

Why do completed torrents often show as not quite complete, i.e. with something like 0.02% remaining, and how do I get them to finish? This has become more of a problem now that I have created a new torrent myself and can't seed it because µTorrent insists there is 340kb remaining, no matter how often I re-check, or remove and re-add the my torrent!

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

What is the listed availability for the torrent?

Then the torrent can't complete.

Why not? The data is right there on my HDD.
Again - why does µTorrent frequently report completed torrents as not quite complete, and how can this problem be resolved?

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

If you're the one that made the torrent then the problem lies in the fact that something on the system modified the files.

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

The files haven't been changed.
What about all the other torrents that report just short of being complete where they previously reported being complete? What causes it and how do I fix it?

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

If they're becoming incomplete between re-loading they ARE being changed or you're skipping files and dealing with cross-file pieces.

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

I am seeing in the logger alternating "Disconnect:Has everything" messages on 99.X% (each time X is a different number) and "Disconnect: Is seed" on the same IP that is using version 3.1.2. It looks like on every connection uT detects a different amount of data. Might be related to this issue.

@mcaspi - Do those messages pertain to particular torrents? I don't seem to be getting those msgs anyway.
@DreadWingKnight - The torrent in question consists of a RAR file plus a couple of text files. It is the RAR file that is at 99.8% according to µTorrent. The RAR files tests successfully in WinRAR (i.e. it has no errors or corruption) - so how can it have changed as you insist it has?

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

Where in the rar is the file different? At the end that shares the piece with the text files?

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

The RAR file isn't different - that is my point. If it was different (i.e. had got corrupted) it would fail the integrity check in WinRAR.

Cross-file pieces. Nothing you can do about it except NOT deleting those text files.

Could you elaborate? Why is there nothing I can do about it?

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

Because the last piece in the rar is shared with the text files.

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

.And why does that mean it won't complete?

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

If you don't have the files and no one else does, then the torrent won't be complete.
The torrent will NEVER show as complete if you delete the files.

Search for "Cross-file pieces" on these forums for details.

I just log sometimes so I see these messages. No particular torrent. If you start logging disconnects you might see the messages. What is weird is sometimes my uT finds that the remote ip is a peer and sometimes it finds that it is a seed.

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

@DreadWingKnight  - So how is this not a bug? I mean the system as it's designed is plain not working correctly.

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

You mean "Not working as you'd like" not "not working correctly".

For how the bittorrent protocol is designed, uTorrent IS behaving properly.

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

DWK, what's the logic behind disconnecting with a "Disconnect: Is Seed" message and 5 minutes later disconnecting from the same ip with a "Disconnect: Has Everything"?. uT already "decided" it's a seed so 5 minutes later it's a peer?

Re: Completed torrents often show as not complete.

Which means? Doesn't sound reasonable that a remote client can be a seeder and a peer.
