I use UTorrent 2.2.1. It is stable and it doesn't give me any problems with Windows 7 pro x64 at all. The only problems I have is when someone with 3.0 or later they aren't connectable to me. I hate it when users use 3.0 or later versions of Utorrent. Seriously those versions are almost always banned in private torrent sites or users should be discouraged to use anything 3.0 and later. The versions SUCK PEOPLE. Of course that's my opinion and a lot of others opinions.

Introduction BEncoding is a data encoding scheme used primarily in the BitTorrent world. Because BEncoded files can contain binary data, and because of some of the intricacies involved in the way binary strings are stored, it is often not safe to edit such files in text editors. Many people have previously asked about where one might find an editor that can safely edit BEncoded files, but none have really existed in the general sense. The only ones I've seen were .torrent file editors, which (although they technically do edit BEncoded files) don't edit just ANY type of BEncoded file. Out of a bit of boredom and free time, this editor was born. Example Uses Edit .torrent files: - the announce/announce-list keys (binary/list) store the tracker(s) - the url-list key (binary/list) stores the webseed(s) - the nodes key (list) stores the DHT bootstrap node(s) Edit µTorrent's .dat files: - corrupt resume.dat files can sometimes be salvaged simply by loading and saving the resume.dat file in this editor - the paths stored in resume.dat can be edited en masse with Find/Replace Final Warning This utility is for advanced users. Read the warnings in the USES section, and read them again until you understand well what you're getting yourself into by using this editor. Its relatively intuitive UI can beguile most uninitiated/beginning users, as it has an inherent ability to invalidate many files through wrong and incorrect edits. Consider this editor to be experimental. As such, you should exercise caution by backing up any files you plan on editing with this utility. Download x64 builds will run only on 64-bit versions of Windows. Unicode builds can display Unicode characters (like Asian characters) properly, but work only with Windows 2000 and above. ANSI builds can't display Unicode characters properly, but should work on Windows 9x and above. Notes - Binary data and integers are exported as raw data rather than BEncoded data - Dictionary merging does not sort keys or resolve duplicate keys - File recovery recovers only decodable parts of input files - Finding "Value by Key" finds exact key names unless RegEx is used - Holding Ctrl while reloading reloads data from disk - Holding Shift while moving moves an item to top/bottom (direction-dependent) - Holding Shift while pasting pastes the item below the currently focused item - Holding Shift while sorting will recursively search for dictionaries to sort - Only dictionaries can be sorted - Only files containing dictionaries and lists can be edited directly - Switching an item between dictionary/list will cause the item to be cleared - The root of a dictionary (not its children) must be selected to sort it Final Thoughts Bug reports, suggestions, and the like are always welcome... Just be aware that there are no guarantees that I'll ever get around to doing anything about them. I might not do anything about them for a period of time, and then I might suddenly work on them in a "spur of the moment" kind of... uh, whatever. History

Yeah, that's why you want to use the 2 mb size version without the wrapper-installer. Just rename the small guy to utorrent.exe and overwrite the old with the new and launch it directly from its normal location [%appdata%\utorrent], it'll self-update with no fuss at all. If you launch the small guy from another location it will redo its [minimal] install , asking a few questions before overwriting itself, and you might loose a few settings but not many, it preserves your setup. But it's easiest to just overwrite it yourself and avoiding any sort of install at all. BTW, to find the small guy inside of large one, open the large one with 7zip; you'll see within a file called "carrier.exe", that's the small guy, everything else is "the installer" crap, which often offers up shareware...just extract carrier.exe, rename to utorrent.exe and do the overwrite - voila...you're updated...with all your settings intact [important if you turned off all the ads.] I've been overwritting for years and never once seen an ad or any shareware... Always look for the 2 mb size, or extract it yourself from the 4mb wrapper...

My mistake, I was looking at the official (full) file... BTW, I am trying now a new RSS downloader "replacement" - called: Medusa - https://cdn.pymedusa.com/ It's actually pretty nice. I've added to it some new uTorrent related changes/fixes, that were embedded into the next release. Also, added locally a min/max smart-file-size filters too... Works great

I kept upgrading thinking that the newer versions would be better... but the last one was the drop that spilled the glass. I went back to the last installer i had on my machine (3.1), and I even might go back to a 2.x version if i find it.
  17. 2 points
Tried some 3.x builds but just could not get them to match the performance of 2.2.1. Also, 3.x has pesky ads and apps, if I wanted bloatware I would not use utorrent at all. For me 2.2.1 lets me add the RSS feeds that I want and then I can forget about even looking at it, it just does the job. I've also helped some friends use 2.2.1 instead of 3.x. What would the reason be to use anything newer?

Discovered a workaround for the disappeared "Append the torrent's label to the directory name" Enable your uTorrent's web interface, go to it using your browser, adjust the settings from there - the "append..." checkbox is still present in that interface, and it still works (just tested it). Enable web interface: Open the uTorrent program and in the menus, choose Options>PreferencesIn the dialog box, expand "Advanced" and click "Web UI"In the right side of the dialog box:check (turn on) the "Enable Web UI" checkboxPut in a username and password (even if just for a minute - you can turn all this off once we're done). Remember these authentication values.Check the Connectivity> "Alternative listening port..." box, and type in a port value.(I couldn't make the Web GUI work without choosing an alternative listening port). In my example, I'll use port 23456; you can use anything, but I recommend a number higher than 4096. In any case, remember this port value.Click "OK"Go to the Web UI using your browser: On the same computer that's running uTorrent, open your favorite (compatible) browser and enter the URL http://localhost:[port]/gui. the [port] value was determined above. In my example, the URL is http://localhost:23456/guiYou should be prompted to log in. Use the authentication values from above.Adjust the setting by using the Web UI: Once logged in with your browser, click the little "preferences" gear icon at the top of the web page.On the left side of the "Preferences" dialog box, click "Directories"On the right side of the same dialog box, check (turn on) the "Append the torrent's label" box.Click the dialog box's "Apply" button (or "OK" button, but you can save a step below by using "Apply")I suggest testing with a quick download now, but that it of course optional. WHat I mean by "testing" is you should go fetch a torrent, apply a label to it (one for which you haven't built a label/directory mapping rule) and see if it gets placed in the desired subfolder when it's finished. For impatience, I suggest using a small-sized torrent with lots of seeders. Sorry, I won't include troubleshooting steps here in case it fails; I'm already using more time typing this than I'd wanted to use Turn off the Web UI (also optional): (you can even do this from within the web page!) In the same browser window, same dialog box, on the left side, click "Web UI" and uncheck (turn off) the "Enable Web UI" checkbox. This will give you a "Web UI was disbaled" window.Close the browser window/tab

Your Gig speeds aren't related to torrent speeds those are two different metrics. Torrent speeds are based on swarms and seeders that determine upload and download speeds. And since there is no screenshot of screen comparison on each computer no one can know what is happening. If torrent speeds are megabits it doesn't go gigabits because you have a gigabit connections.

Up to now only .com and .net adresses can be indicated. So for the .info you will see no flag ... This depens on the devs to implement that. Problem is that (mainly) the US are thinking that everything which is .com or .net or .info ... is from US (which is not true). I'm using 2.2.1, though I'd be happy with 2.0.4 which was also great for me. Another member summed it up nicely: Stable; has never crashed No disk I/O and caching issues No ads No social features No streaming features No multimedia features No anti-virus integration Clean and fast UI Seriously, µtorrent became the king because it was tiny, fast, any computer could run it, and it had no stupid bulk. Everything since 2.2.1 has forked in an entirely different and highly annoying direction. It used to be that clients would get banned from different trackers when they got old. Fortunately, everyone seems to realize how dreadful the 3.x versions are so client-banning has virtually disappeared with the realization that a lot of people have no intentions of upgrading. As long as that remains the case, I'll be using 2.2.1 for years to come. Who wants ads, streaming, multimedia, and social features in a content downloading program??
  49. 1 point
Using version 2.2.1 (25302) Why it's good? Well, let's see: Stable No disk I/O and caching issues No ads No social features No streaming features No multimedia features No anti-virus integration Clean and fast UI: It is considerably more responsive without visible delay Search engine field that CAN BE hidden (while on that topic — every sane person expects this field to be used for filtering existing torrents and does not expect it to perform external web search) Narrower rows in the main list. More information fits on the screen as a result No comment/rating tabs (that don't go away even when you explicitly turn them off) No dialog window that ask you to rate every single torrent you delete (while ratings has been explicitly turned off) One problem that 2.2.1 has is "Apps" which you can not turn off, uTorrent keeps creating directories at every restart (at least App Pane can be hidden). And one minor annoyance is Find Content Pane (luckily can be hidden as well).
