  1. It gave me a tooltip once (and that's what told me what it is) but I can't get it to display again.
  2. So now in build 433 we have the classic status color signal. Why is it yellow when I have no torrents in the client? Shouldn't it be black or nonexistent? I have DHT enabled ... maybe it's yellow because I have no incoming DHT connections (which I shouldn't, there being no torrents in the client)? disable DHT close client reopen client signal still yellow Well, going to have to (shudder) actually join a torrent and see if it turns properly green.
  3. urgreat_dude: The only way I've found here to start a new topic (if you didn't find an existing thread for it when you searched) is to go to the forum index and select the section where you want your thread to reside. The section index page has a "start new topic" choice in the upper right. To confuse things further, the sections are also called fora, just as the entirety is called a forum ... sigh.
  4. Good point, Rafi. Didn't think of that. (Further evidence of utter lack of sleuthing skills.) It was only a spoiler anyway, without instructions for finding it, though, and user9475's probably already deluged with PMs for it.
  5. Darn, I missed user9475's post before it was censored by peer pressure. As to finding it ourselves, some of us don't know how to go about looking. Heck, some of us wouldn't recognize it as the egg it if we found it.
  6. The Christmas eCard threw itself in our faces. We didn't have to look for it. Silly me, I fell for 00's trick and clicked the link (after seeing that it was just to another thread here and not to anything risky). So, 00, you get to say "made ya look!"
  7. So the sound from clicking on the logo in the About box is the _old_ Easter egg, and the new one is something else?
  8. For those of us without sleuthing talents, where's the older one? Seems if you do the same thing in an older version, you also get the sound. Is the sound, like the tray icon, subtly different as of build 432?
  9. Gosh, so much reaction to the slight change in the system tray icon. If it weren't for these posts, I wouldn't have noticed the difference.
  10. Thought you might, so that's why I preserved the original. It was just too good.
  11. just had to save the original text for posterity in case Nefarious edits it ...
  12. I'll second that. It actually fails to crash my system; Mainline is the only other client that can make that claim.
  13. Or that user might not really have 100% but could be falsely announcing as such (perhaps unintentionally). For those of you sick of hearing me bring that up: yes, that's my single biggest peeve.
  14. Agreed 100% with Firon's position: I'm a moderator on a private tracker, and I tell users not to turn DHT off (haven't had one asking about PEX yet, but I'd give the same answer) in their clients, because it can be useful for other torrents besides those on our tracker. Let the torrent (if need be, as modified by the tracker upon submission) determine the privacy setting.
  15. Good point, Firon ... the stowaway can't spread beyond the peers who add him/her.
  16. For that matter, shouldn't "add peer" be disabled if the torrent has the private=1 infodict key (or maybe it is already; I so rarely actually get to join a swarm any more)?
  17. That build number does not bespeak reliability. Let's hope it breaks with its reputation.
  18. [Dude's referring to our current downtime because of problems at the host.] Seriously, though, Dude, this happened months ago and was occasioned by our not giving him an exception to the policies. Some donors think they're bribing us rather than helping fund the tracker. I'm sure Ludde gets the same thing: someone will kick in a few euros and then expect every software change (s)he desires to be implemented immediately and unquestioningly.
  19. Close to home, Hofshi. On the tracker where I'm a moderator, one disgruntled user who had donated demanded double his donation back. Actually, it was worse: he demanded his donation back and stated the amount as twice what it really was in an attempt to trick a penalty out of us.
  20. Ultima, Klaus_1250: thanks for answering. So, for example, let's say a torrent is on a private tracker. If someone adds an external peer manually, and there's no peer exchange going on, this external peer has a connection only to whoever added him/her. Then it's as if the adding peer had sent a copy of the torrent content to the added peer separately from the torrent, because the only participant uploading to the stowaway is the one who voluntarily added him/her (and unless he came in with some of the content, nobody is downloading from him/her). But if peer exchange is allowed, that outsider's IP:port pair gets passed around to others without the tracker's knowing it, and any member can add a stranger as virtually a full participant in the swarm. Is it something like that, then?
  21. Infirmus, Firon, thanks for explaining. I don't follow why the private=1 infodict key should disable Peer Exchange for that torrent, though. The thread at http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=2407&p=5 to which Firon pointed veered off-topic into client ID spoofing, and Silverfire closed it. Maybe the posts that got in before it was closed will answer my remaining question.
  22. Would someone be so accommodating as to post a link to an explanation of Peer Exchange? My web search talents are nil and usually lead only to red herrings, and this was no exception. Thanks for any assistance.
  23. Of course, once you edit it, there was no need for my correction any more.
  24. Today's date is not 2006-01-13; it is 1993-09-4518 (if I added right).
  25. "Open for seeding" doesn't seem to mean what it does in Azureus (analyze files and don't announce to the tracker unless there's 100%), but rather what it means in BitComet (announce at 100% without analyzing). One can always stop and do a forced recheck, of course. I'm curious but haven't the guts to try it: what happens if you've opened for seeding and announced at 100%, but you don't really have 100% (maybe you have 0%), and someone requests a piece that in reality you don't have?
