  1. How about asking yourself this question: Do I think µTorrent is working with Anti-P2P people to make P2P harder?

    If the answer is Yes:

Why would µTorrent benefit from this?

Why would I lie about working with Anti-P2P and just say that I don't? Why would I want to destroy something I've spent tons of months on?

If the answer still is Yes, then I suggest you stop using µTorrent. If the user doesn't like my program, why would I want to keep the user.

    If the answer is No:

    All good.

  2. From what I can tell:

    * PeerFactor was the name of a service by a company called RetSpan.

    but also:

    * PeerFactor SARL is the name of a totally different company that was founded in 2005. This company promotes P2P.

These seem to be (legally) two totally independent entities. I have a contract with the second, while the first one is clearly Anti-P2P.

The same people (at least one person) are behind both of them. They are probably confused mortals that realized that Anti-P2P isn't the right way to go, so they made another company related to the positive effects of P2P.

There might have been some confusion when I was interviewed by slyck. I thought the Slyck interviewer referred to PeerFactor SARL when he was talking about RetSpan's PeerFactor.

  3. µTorrent 1.5 is released. An update (build 437) was released today, please re-download it.

This is the biggest release ever. The major changes are of course Peer Exchange and Protocol Encryption, in combination with optimizations to download speed and harddisk accesses.

The biggest GUI change is a new category list that sorts your torrents by label.

The full changelog can be found at http://utorrent.com/download/1.5/utorrent-1.5.txt

Anyone experiencing freezing in 1.5, please read and post in this thread.

  4. µTorrent 1.4 is finally out. The changes are quite overwhelming. The most notable new features are:

    * Bitcomet style add dialog

    * RSS Reader

    * Speed wizard to select your proper settings based on upload speed.

Some other much requested features that have been added are:

    * Add !ut to incomplete files

    * Multi scrape

    * Better download speeds from BitComet clients.

Hope you find the new release as good as the previous ones. If you have a chance, don't forget to donate to the project. There is a button at the bottom of the main page. That is greatly appreciated and means I can continue working on µTorrent.

There are tons of other features too. For the full changelog, please see:

  5. I kinda like the website. Maybe the left part should be a bit smaller to give more room for the content to the right?

Also it's probably better to have a black body text instead of blue, for people with eye problems.

Also I'd like to have the ads integrated on the page, preferrably in a place that makes it easy for people to see the ads and click on them.

  6. I should add that I like the bee. I like the middle one more, it looks cuter. My favorite candidates are either the bee or the tribal guy right now. The standard tribal guy looks kinda boring with just a single color, so in that case the bee is on the top.

It would be interesting to see what a total webpage/everything would look like with this bee as the logo and an appropriate theme.

  7. Hi.. I read this thread, but I guess what you refer to as "power" just includes me, and I don't really know much about design and stuff.. so I don't really know which logo is more appropriate... I really need someone else to help me with those kind of decisions...

I'm just a programmer, not an all mighty god :P

  8. µTorrent 1.3 is finally out after a long wait! The biggest change in µTorrent 1.3 is the support for unicode. I decided to bump the revision number to 1.3 because of the big changes required to support unicode!

It should also give a little bit better upload speed for people on fast connections.

Download it from the download page:

    http://utorrent.com/download.php

    Full changelist (build 363):

    - Feature: UNICODE!

    - Feature: Added option to enable/disable internal tracker.

    - Feature: Detect encoding field in a torrent and parse filenames accordingly.

    - Feature: Support crashdumps on pre-WinXp.

    - Feature: Added option to sort downloads based on the label.

    - Feature: Autodetect if the language textfile is utf8 or ansi.

    - Feature: Rate limit DHT traffic.

    - Feature: Nicer availability graph.

    - Feature: Added setting to control how fast utorrent tries to connect to new peers.

    - Change: Increase the amount of connects a bit.

    - Fix: Error message in tray would sometimes not go away

    - Fix: Don't count a seed as a download if there are free seed slots (#68)

    - Fix: Change random port selection

    - Fix: Upload a little bit more aggressively

    - Fix: ulslots wasn't saved properly on restart.

    - Fix: Support piecesize 16k.

    - Fix: Use atomic movefile when saving resume file on XP

    - Fix: Better utorrent.exe.log if translation loading fails

    - Fix: Fix bug that DHT got stuck in (Login)

    - Fix: Fixed some crash bugs. (Thanks to the crash dumps)

    - Fix: Hopefully worked around the file open crash. (Caused by Adobe Acrobat 7).

    - Fix: Fix crash bug if an invalid filename is selected in the opendialog.

    - Fix: Fix crash when removing torrents.

    - Fix: Fix sorting in pieces tab

These fixes were fixed in the second release of 1.3 (build 364):

    - Fix: Move up/down didn't move like you expected

    - Fix: Opening a torrent by doubleclicking in explorer didn't always work.

  9. µTorrent modified the result of GetCommandLineW, so if you had spaces in the path, then the path would look like

    "C:\foo bar\utorrent 1.3.exe" argument

so when parsing utorrent would remove the last ", so if your system had a driver with a buggy command line parser, it would crash. This is not something you normally see, since virtually no program normally modifies GetCommandLineW.
