    3.5.x Beta

Qbittorrent - and I wish they would have stolen a little bit more... it doesn't seem to allow entries and the files to be renamed as easily. Sometimes I get torrents with cryptic or incomplete names, and I fix that... I didn't see a way to do that easily with Qbittorrent.

I am going to give this 45918 a shot... because 45828 has problems also. There are so many great things about Utorrent.. that I hate to use anything else. In fact, I have noticed that other clients have stolen the look and features of Utorrent.. but not quite. There is only one other Torrent Client that I am aware of which is comparable to Utorrent which is made by a different company.

I thought I had fixed the problem with all but 2 of the 7596 torrents.. but then.. I did another check of all the files.. and there are hundreds more dissociated. The torrents are not corrupted, the files downloaded are not corrupted. It is just that the list of torrents "loses" disassociates from the files. I really think the developers need to make a separate program, which (after closing the utorrent application) allows the RESUME.DAT file to be edited so that the problem torrents can be tagged, removed from RESUME.DAT so that when Utorrent is started up again, I can add the list of removed torrents back again. It seems like a lot of people have this problem, but they are not aware of the problem until they go looking for it. The problem torrents will not download nor upload nor can they be deleted nor played while in Utorrent. I have untold thousands of hours of work invested in my torrents, and it would be nice if the client worked properly, or at leas when it doesn't work can be fixed.. or at the very least, if the programmers / developers would acknowledge that they are aware of the problems and take note of the suggestions.

45838 is the only version that my computer refuses to run... claiming it is malware.

    3.5.x Beta

Of the 7596 torrents I have loaded in Utorrent over 1000 of them had become disassociated. After 2 days of tinkering.. I got all but 2 of them re-associated. I do back up all my torrents. I'm not that bothered by the fact that sometimes torrents become disassociated. The PROBLEM is when I can't delete the disassociated torrents so that I can re-load them. The fastest way I've found to detect which torrents have become disassociated is to tag them all, and then try to assign a label such as "TEST". Any torrent which does not get assigned the new label, is a torrent that has been disassociated. The main way to fix them is to rename the .torrent extension to something else such as .torr, then shut down Utorrent and start it up again.. and if it is then re-associated, it will allow the torrent to be re-loaded by changing the .torr back to .torrent and doing a re-check. That method works about 95% of the time.

Using the old version of it wipes out all the additions and deletions I've made up to the point of the last save. There is nothing wrong with the actual *.torrent files, nor the files I downloaded. They have just become disassociated.. and Utorrent is not allowing me to delete the dissociated torrents so I can re-join them to their files. My best fix so far is to find the problem torrents.. rename them to something other than *.torrent, and then shut down and restart U-torrent. In many cases, that allows me to ressurect those torrents and I rename them back to *.torrent, and recheck them.

Yes.. but there are times when my computer shuts down with no warning.. such as when there is a power surge, lightning strike, cat stomps on the power key (he does that a LOT), System has a spontaneous boot, etc. Invariably, there are going to be torrents that have a problem. It would be nice to have a way to simply purge entries from the resume.dat file so they can be re-added. The alternative is a nightmare of renaming, rebooting, restarting, etc. I have found that the most efficient way of finding "orphaned" torrents is to tag them all and try to give them a label. Then, sort them all in the label list. Any torrent that did not get labelled is an "orphaned" torrent. It's also interesting that sometimes fixing just ONE torrent.. winds up fixing several dozen more. Also, having one bad association seems to CAUSE other torrents to become disassociated also.

This would be a great solution. Utorrent does a great job of uploading and downloading torrents. What it has a problem with is maintaining it's own database of torrents. Sometimes the files downloaded lose their association with their torrent files. It would be fantastic if there were a separate program which did nothing but: 1. Import the utorrent database of torrents files (*.torrent) files 2. Allow this "library" program to delete *.torrent files from that database By doing that, then when Utorrent started up again, those trouble some *.torrent files would be GONE from the database. The *.torrent files would still be on the users hard drive, as would the associated files - so the user could re-add them and re-check them to rebuild the database. ========= Ideally, the Utorrent program would allow this brute force deletion of entries from the database itself, but that would be complicated. It could even be called "Utorrent Doctor" The main reason for making this utility separate from the main Utorrent program is that it would be extremely simple and short program. It might be a good idea to not allow this program to run while the main Utorrent program is running, so that they are not fighting for rights to modify the database.k6

I found 3 dis-associated torrents that I can't fix even with built 45828 running. I have run out of ideas.. other than to go back even further. I will try that in a few hours. Might try installing Bittorrent.. and try to delete the 3 torrents, and re-load them.

It's easier to describe than it is to show. Basically, it is when you have torrents (even completed ones) in your main list, but when you click on them, nothing is shown under FILES INFO PEERS TRACKERS PIECES GRAPHS LOGGER. Also, you cannot change the status nor stop the those torrents. They are frozen. There is an easy trick to see which, if any, of your torrents are affected. Tag several, or all of the torrents in your main screen. Do that by highlighting several of them by holding down CTRL and clicking on them OR highlight one, and then hold shift and click on another one to highlight an entire range. THEN right click on the range and click on LABEL. Make up any label you want.. such as TEST. Each torrent should then have the label of TEST. Any that do not, have lost their association. I currently have 7588 torrents loaded, so I probably see problems that most of you don't encounter because you don't overload your utorrent the way I do. I like software to work no matter if I load 3 files into it.. or a billion. For those who are hesitant to upgrade.. forget that idea. About 8 years ago, when Utorrent would crash on me, it would take several WEEKS for it to recheck everything. That no longer happens. The worst crashes I've had this year took at most 2 days to clear up. About 2 years ago, Utorrent was crashing on me every hour or so.. which was driving me mad. At one point, it got so bad that I ditched utorrent and used other torrent clients. I also tried Bittorrent which looks and functions exactly like Utorrent, but it is coded differently, and doesn't upload nor download nearly as fast. If you are not using Rafi's LAA builds, you should! Having access to more memory greatly improves performance and reduces the problems considerably. Ideally, you should have a computer that is dedicated to torrenting, so you are not interfering with other things that are memory hogs such as Photoshop, editing multimedia, or anything to do with sound and motion video. Most people who use computers do nothing more than send and receive text messages. That is like owning an Indy Race Car.. and only using it to pick up groceries at the supermarket 1/4 mile away.

The fact that it happens at all is annoying. On my computer.. it doesn't fix itself on rebooting.. I first have to rename the torrent extension to TORR (or something other than torrent) and also rename the associated file or directory, then reboot then rename them back.. and then recheck them. That works over 90% of the time. I had a few in the past 2 days where NOTHING brought them back to life.. the only fix I found was to go back to built 45828

I have tested all the versions... 45828 - seems to work fine and allows the errors of later versions to be fixed 45838 - won't run - shows up as malware 45842 - occasional errors with associating files to their torrent files 45852 - occasional errors with associating files to their torrent files - sometimes can't be fixed 45816 - occasional errors with associating files to their torrent files - sometimes can't be fixed 45826 - ??? when I downloaded this, I got 45816 I would recommend that the programmers / coders burn all versions of Utorrent after 45828... and go to work on that version's code as the starting point. While they are at it.. they should turn on the LAA bit so that Rafi doesn't have to take care of that for us. If you have problems going back to a previous version.. you may have to delete or rename the .exe files of your newer versions. It is quite sneaky, you have to shut down utorrent completely, and also be in administrator mode and then replace your current utorrent.exe with the version you want AND you might also however you might have to also delete the "backup" copy. For instance, with version 45916, you must not only replace utorrent.exe but also in a subdirectory - delete 3.5.5_45916.exe

    3.5.x Beta

BUG ALERT!!! build 45852 has a nasty bug - in which some files become dissociated with their torrents - and the association is very difficult, and sometimes impossible to fix. out of desperation, I reverted to build 45828 - which fixed the problem I just upgraded to 45842 - and I will be watching to see if the problem is still gone. But the bottom line is.. Build 45852 (or earlier) has a nasty bug 6 hours later, and 45842 is still working fine... so it seems that 45852 is the one with the problem. I take that back... 45842 locked up a few hours later, and when I restarted it, it had some problems. However, instead of going back to 45828, I am going FORWARD with the brand new 45926 that Rafi just posted.

    3.5.x Beta

I find it very odd that when crashing.. or even exiting the program.. torrents that were ACTIVE in being UPLOADED are automatically re-checked when utorrent starts up again.. That makes no sense to me. If a torrent is ACTIVE in downloading, it makes sense that the incomplete torrent would need to be re-checked, but it makes no sense why torrents that are uploading (which are already complete) need to be re-checked. When I have torrents that are 20GB.. re-checking can take a considerable time. Another thing is.. if a torrent has not yet begun to download when utorrent is shut down.. it seems to get lost completely, and needs to be re-loaded from scratch when Utorrent restarts.

    3.5.x Beta

I would not say it is "abandoned" but it would be nice if the developers / programmers would acknowledge the problems.. and ask for more details about the problem so they can fix it. I used to be a super programmer myself (I gave it up because I got very little appreciation for my efforts financially or otherwise). It is extremely difficult to fix bugs in software, especially if the code was written in a cryptic coding language such as C++. It is usually easier to write new code from scratch rather than try to debug existing code. This is not only true about trying to debug someone ELSE'S code, but even trying to debug one's OWN code (probably because one is not likely to find their OWN mistakes).

Isn't a new Beta due? I'm having one big problem with 45852 - it randomly loses the links between the *.torrent files and the downloaded files associated with them, and it is a major pain in my ass to rebuild those links.

I often have my utorrent open for several days at a time. Before LAA my utorrent was crashing every half hour. I currently have 7127 Torrents loaded. downloading 80 seeding 3900 completed 7047 active 8 I'm not sure if this is what you meant.. I couldn't find a GDI column in my task manager / details I installed a 64 bit version of a free program called GDIview and got these results.

    3.5.x Beta

I mentioned a few hours ago that I had a torrent that was showing as an error which I could not remove. I was finally able to remove it.. here is what I did... I moved all the files in the folder to another location. (This step might not have been necessary) THEN I found the torrent file, and renamed it to have an extension of .ERROR instead of .TORRENT Then I shut Utorrent down and started it up again. Now it was complaining that it could not find the torrent... I then renamed the torrent back to it's original name, shut down Utorrent, started it up again.. and everything was back to normal other than the files were gone. I moved the files back, and did a re-check.. and everything is perfect. If this happens again, I will try skipping the step of moving the files to another location.
