I won't swear that this works, but these are the ut-sites I have in my hosts file:

    0.0.0.0 update.bittorrent.com
    ...

and FWIW, I find that 3.5.5.46552 still works very well without any grief.

.46606 is supposed to be identical to 46552 but with an added "never update me"  patch.  If you can not find those versions anywhere anymore I can offer them up...

    Make two null-size files (updates & updates.dat with attribute read-only) in %appdata%\uTorrent.

    Thanks folks.

    I've made these changes.

I've no issue with running an updated - latest beta - version. After all, that's where feedback comes from. I don't make as in-depth use of the application as others but hopefully my occasional input is useful.

  2. Dunno what happened, but I'm not pleased.

uTorrent updated automatically to beta 46888. The settings were set to not perform automatic updates, but it happened anyway.

In the process, all my settings were reset. Downloading and downloaded folders changed.
    Adverts have returned.
    And so on.

Further, I cannot now find any way to prevent further automatic updates.

In Advanced options, bt.read_only_on_complete - if true, set to false.

Was set to 'true' - changed to 'false'.

    Sadly, no change.

    99.8%... 99.9%... Flushing to disk... 99.8%... etc

    Check antivirus log.

    No current threats.
Last scan: 8/08/2023 10:39am [just under an hour ago]
    0 threats found

Going through the log in more detail, there is no mention of any virus discovery, activity or action.

  5. I don't think this is specific to a particular build, but is an issue I have seen a few times recently.

Downloading a set of files just over 1Gb in total size. Download speed isn't amazing (my connection is about 4Mb/s) but sustains at between 300KB/s and 1MB/s. Download approaches completion - 99.8%+ - and sometimes flicks between 99.8% and 99.9% a few times, but eventually turning the status bar green, saying 'Flushing to disk (128)'. But then the status bar turns blue, and progress drops back to 99.8%. It'll then appear to complete again, displays the same message, and repeat. It never finishes.

I've tried stopping, re-checking, starting, and even force starting the torrent - no difference. I have stopped and restarted the uTorrent application; I have rebooted the PC. There is plenty of disk space, memory use is fine, there is no interruption to the connection.

Any thoughts as to what might cause this?

    Currently running 46840.

  6. 3.6 build 46828

Downloading on my laptop. Battery ran low enough to shut down the laptop. On restart, all torrents are gone from uTorrent. Nothing Active, Inactive - nothing at all.

No idea if the torrents completed or not.

Checked settings - not set to delete torrents on completion.

I'll update to 46840 and see if it happens again.

Are the files still on your hard drive, but just not listed in the Utorrent app?

Did the files ever complete downloading in the first place?

I use Utorrent 3.5.5 46606 quite successfully.  Where did you get your copy of it?  From this site, another site, or from Rafi?

(Incomplete) files were on HDD; the torrent had just disappeared from uTorrent.

They'd not completed downloading. I was able to reinstate the magnet and uTorrent picked up on partially completed files, checked them, and continued.

I've only ever used any version of uTorrent from this site. Never from elsewhere!

  8. OK - this is getting silly.

I've not (yet) updated as per @SergeyQAs suggestion.

Left uTorrent running. Power cut or whatever at some point while I was away. Came back, restarted computer, then uTorrent, and... All torrents are gone. Not just a case of not downloading or whatever - I have no torrents at all. 6 (or so) were there when I left, with at least one actively downloading.

  9. 3.5.5 build 46606

Just started seeing a lot of error pop-ups saying:

"The install of C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Temp\uttF1A5.temp failed. (Signer certificate mismatch)"

The actual filename varies slightly but is always of the form 'utt***.tmp'

This seems a recurring issue - while uTorrent is running, it tries to do this on a fairly regular basis.

I'm not aware of a recent update to the software, only Windows 10 updates.

I suspect the official recommendation will be to update the version of uTorrent, but as I said - this has only started happening in the last few days.

    Logger tab empty?

    Apologies for the late reply.
Yes. If there had been a sign saying "nothing to see here" there would have been more info I could share!

May be hashfails in torrent piece, look in logger tab.

Left it for 10 minutes. Came back and download rate appeared the same; suggested 2.1% complete.

And then it finished. Quite literally, I looked away for 30 seconds and it went from 1.9% to completed.

  12. 3.5.5 beta build 46606

Seeing some bizarre activity. Downloading a 530Mb file, the download progressed through 0.7%, 0.8% and up to 1.1%. The showed download as having reached 0.7% again.

Download speed is between 60 and 120KB/s and has been sustained for over 20 minutes, yet (now) I have just 0.9% downloaded. The ETA appears to continue coming down, but it is a bit early to get excited about that.

    Never seen this before!

I never use the auto-updating, I always use manual.

I was staying with version 3.5 because of all the negative comments about 3.6

Somehow, my utorrent DID auto-update to version 3.6 build 46590 - and now it no longer uploads nor downloads!

Hopefully, downgrading to Rafi's 3.5 will fix the problem.   I still have 3.5 installed on another laptop, and that version works fine!   I pity all the people who got auto-updated to 3.6 - and now have a useless torrrent client.

Same. Hence my surprise when it auto updated.

    And...

Same. Somehow my install DID auto-update. Yes - I know. Can't happen. And I thought that I had somehow done something to cause it, but seeing someone else has had hte same 'issue', I'm wondering if it was me.

    And... Same. Rafi's 3.5. :)

Your problem, gjm, is that you did not do the manual update recommended here by Sergey to this same build:

This is were they've disabled auto-updates by default all together so to avoid any update to 3.6 till it'd be  usable...

I've always done manual updates. Until today, I had a 'clean' 3.5.5 install (I uninstalled 3.6 build 46590 and manually installed a 3.5.5 version from the link in your sig) and no issues. No ads, no auto update.

Today that somehow changed. I didn't look for or attempt an update. This morning I appeared to have an update to a (new?) 3.5.5 beta build.

The only differences have been Windows updates, and adding a Chrome extension to reduce ads and pop-ups.

    I've rolled back again. :)

  15. I thought I had auto update turned *off*. It seems not.

This morning, started uTorrent, and a browser window opened to tell me I had been updated o the latest version. Close browser window and uTorrent is running behind it. Complete with an array of adverts and stuff that had been weeded out. 'Start uTorrent when Windows starts' is selected in preferences, and I absolutely never, ever have that set. 'Automatically install updates' is ticked and greyed out so I cannot deselect it - this is another thing I always turn off.

But torrents that I know were there, and were incomplete, have gone. There is nothing. Zero torrents in any category or state of download.

The .torrent files are in the uTorrent directory; the part-downloaded files are in the correct folder.

I also have numerous .bad files in the uTorrent directory. Again, not something I've seen before.

'New' version is 3.5.5 Beta build 46606.

I have not seen anything good said about version 3.6

Maybe they should start with 3.5, skip 3.6, and go to 3.7

    Ah. That'll be why we don't have a 3.6 thread. ;)

In fairness, I rarely see the stability issues others have reported. Most issues that I've had, with any version, have been down to uTorrent application config, or some curly nonsense with Windows.

The endless insistence on installing nonsense with uTorrent is annoying, but I appreciate we - as beta users - aren't the target audience, and we do have the benefit of Rafi and others working to make our experience as good as possible.

  17. 3.6 build 46590

Unsure if it is just bad luck on my part, but when adding a torrent via magnet it seems (over recent releases) to be taking longer and longer to fill out torrent info. Sometimes restarting uTorrent seems to fix this, sometimes a system reboot.

Of course, it could just be Windows updates causing the issue. Seriously considering trying a dual boot with Linux Mint 21 to see how that goes.

We are working on stabilizing 3.6 builds. If 3.6 is not working for you, you can still use this 3.5 version, which has update to 3.6 disabled.

    Thanks Sergey.

Your work is very much appreciated. :)

  19. OK - how does a 'lifetime' deal work?

Company who sold it to you goes bust. Where's your VPN now? Same goes for the lifetime antivirus deals. Dr Solomon's was extremely highly rated and did have a lifetime option, but no longer exists.

  20. 3.6 build 46590.

Running on my laptop. Leave it running and eventually battery level gets low enough to shut down.

Power up, start uTorrent, and the torrents are *gone*. There are zero torrents. Not active, inactive, or anything. Gone.

Go to the install directory and the part-downloaded file is there, as is the torrent file. Open the torrent file and it identifies that there is a part-download, loads it, checks it, and carries on.

*Never* seen this kind of activity before.

  21. May be coincidence, but since installing 46590 I'm seeing massively reduced download speeds, and much longer wait times to get file lists from magnets. I'll try some other files and see if it is just those downloads, or perhaps a wider issue (for me, at least). One download allegedly has over 1400 seeds and over 900 peers, but I'm unable to connect.

I skipped several updates, coming to 46590 from a 3.5 beta build.

  22. While 'Automatically install updates' has been enabled in the last update to my uTorrent installation - I DON'T WANT THAT! - and is greyed out so I cannot change it - did I say I DON'T WANT THAT? - my installation has NOT updated with the latest version.

Currently on Beta 46346 which seems to be working well for me.
