Encryption should benefit all shaped BitTorrent users, so yeah, Rogers users should see a big improvement once µTorrent and Azureus go stable.

Although some ISP's are continuing to block P2P traffic, it appears I have some good news:
Shaw, one of the nastiest ISP's when it comes to BitTorrent throttling, looks like it's powerless - for now at least - to stop the latest µTorrent builds (with Encryption enabled). This specific peer was maxed out the whole time (200 kB/s), which is a fairly rare occurrence by itself, let alone on a bastard ISP like Shaw. The Encryption scheme is working, so good job Ludde! :cool:

Agreed. BitVomit's dead, get over it. :/ Also, if you've been following any of the threads lately, you'd have noticed quite a few people have jumped on the PocketLinux torrent to test out their Encryption and discuss their findings. :|

Martin Levac: nice post, but do you want me to post all that? It's a bit too long and confusing...no offense - maybe it's just me. Can I get like a "crunched" version of the above, with only the most essential points?

Some ISP's are using draconian methods to prevent people from using BitTorrent, like throttling down all ports other than 80, 21 etc (even when those ports aren't used for P2P traffic - they just slow them down regardless). Perhaps your ISP is using these same tactics? If so, you may have to change your port to one of the common ones, unfortunately... :/

well, I tried to set my client to Forced, and unchecked incoming legacy, and I'm still getting only around 1.5kB/s from you. Is your BW still free now? because if it is, then either my ISP overcomes µtorrent's encryption, or the client is not aggressive enough.

Edit: I don't know what I'm talking about here really, but is it possible that I am set to Force, don't allow incoming legacy, and that my ISP detects DHT/Pex traffic and thus manages to throttle BT traffic?4.) Interesting question. Well I don't know much about that either, so I guess Firon/DWKnight/Ludde will have to give us an explanation... :|

Exactly. And I'm not even maxed out, there's at least 8~9 kB/s more I can pump out to you...I don't know why your/my client isn't aggressive enough. :/

Hi, and welcome, dr_Prozac.
Not necessarily. If you can't maintain a decent upload to all (insert xxxxx of peers here) peers, then it's not advisible to set the Maximum number of connected peers per torrent as high as the Global maximum number of connections. In fact, uploading tiny amounts of data to lots of peers contributes negatively to the swarm as a whole. Even the FAQ doesn't recommend it, so I wouldn't do it.
Yes, I experimented until I found the right value for me. Obviously, everyone's situation is different from mine, so consider the values I give only as a guide to help you in the right direction. Think of it like the wind blowing in one direction...only you can say what works best for you.
I believe this is an interesting observation. If of course you get better speeds that way, then go ahead, use those numbers instead of mine.
Just keep in mind that not all swarms are very well-seeded, and most of the time lower settings will do nicely as well. Though I should say that my settings are fairly conservative, but that is only to prevent people from uploading < 1 kB/s.
