  1. uTorrent 3.1.2 (Build 26729) is still generating .torrent files that are poorly indexed and have non-standard hashes. Below all of this text are 2 links - 1 is for a .torrent file created using 3.1.2 of an entire directory, the other is for a .torrent file created using 3.0 of the SAME directory. I've recreated the .torrent file using 3.1.2 upon the release of each new build hoping that the issues would be corrected, however they have yet to be. You'll notice that the first link (the one that was improperly indexed) does still work, however most sites will reject posting it because of its "corruption". The other .torrent file would technically work, however it's never been used (seeded) so it won't actually work. I've just posted these for troubleshooting purposes.

http://www.mediafire.com/?qrbvn96cx6aw1xn - .torrent created in 3.0 (properly indexed)

Some torrent sites are simply broken. The torrents are 100% valid. Please report it to the site owners to fix their torrent parsers.

  2. Notes re my install problems with new 3.1.2 version on Windows XP SP3, replacing former 3.1 version...

The internal utorrent query update operation said there wasn't an update available, which wasn't true. I had 3.1 and 3.1.2 became available according to the utorrent website. That's OK. I never do updates anyway. I only install complete new versions. So I downloaded the new version installer.

Unfortunately the utorrent website totally lacks infomation about installing a new version to replace a former version. So I didn't know whether I should or could install it over my old one. Thus I flipped a coin, which came up heads, which helped me to decide. I opted to uninstall the old version first.

Good thing I backed up the utorrent appdata folder first, because after uninstalling the old version (keeping my settings, supposedly, by not checking that box in the uninstaller) then installing new version, my settings were *not* retained!? I had several active torrents which simply disappeared, and the utorrent settings were obviously not retained otherwise. So I renamed the new appdata folder to .old and replaced with the former saved appdata folder. Apparently my old settings were restored OK thereby. Things look normal so far.

Unfortunately in that process the installer froze, maybe because I denied it permission to access the ZA trusted zone. I had to close it out as an unresponsive program, not responding to Windows. It seems that the installation completed nevertheless, at least things are behaving OK so far. However that leaves me with a lack of confidence in the utorrent software integrity. Will I experience some unknown bugs in future as a result?

There were some unwanted items that appeared during the installation process related to modifying my browser (homepage, toolbar, etc) which hopefully I sidestepped by unchecking those boxes. My browser still looks normal so far.

Reply comments not expected or needed. This is just a FYI post.

Denying access in your firewall will definitely break things.

As for the uninstall issue, we're aware of it always deleting settings and we'll fix that in the next update (later today, probably).

You don't need to uninstall to upgrade in the future, though. Just close the old version, then run the new one, and you're done.

  3. µTorrent 3.1.2 Release Candidate 1 (26702) Help | uTorrent Help F1 is broken, Auto Download Translation is still broken (though can manually d/l on uTorrent Website). Many connected users, even on public trackers are not exchanging pieces w/ uTorrent now., private trackers are beginning to "ban" uTorrent 3.1.x.. not sure why... Is uTorrent transferring bad data to them? Luckily I still had v2.2.1 and started it up and it was "blazing" fast compared to uTorrent 3.1.2 RC1 and...build 26696...

Programmers must've broke alot of stuff while integrating uTorrent "Plus" into the codebase???

Private trackers banned 3.1 because it did not ban peers for sending bad data. 3.1.2 fixes that specific problem.

  4. When I uninstall µTorrent, even though didn't choose "Remove Settings", but it still delete all files in "C:\Documents and Settings\??????????\Application Data\uTorrent"

I reported many times, why still no fix?

We're aware of it and will fix later. Also, why uninstall? You don't need to do that for any good reason if you're just going to install again. It doesn't make upgrading work any better.

  5. This is a quick release to solve a few peer banning and hashfail problems present in version 3.1. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

This version is based off 3.1 instead of 3.1.1. We will re-release 3.1.1 later with a higher version number.

    Download the new version now!

  6. utorrent 3.x and up has started getting banned on a lot trackers and therefore can't use the client.

Due to a serious bug in uTorrent 3.1 that causes it not to ban peers sending bad data, we have been forced to remove it from our client whitelist. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

That's what the site I use utorrent on had posted in their forum, any way you guys can quickly fix this bug so it can be used on the sites again because if not then a majority of people will be forced to go back to 2.2.1 and not update to the newer versions of utorrent if it can't be used with a majority of sites.

We're aware of it and will fix it. We'll probably bump the version # to make it easier for trackers to distinguish.
