c0ldfusi0n
Hello folks. I've decided to try your torrent client since i found that none of the alternatives are really what i need. I feel they're too "bloated" (not in a bad way) with features i do not need, while yours does strictly what i want it to do. I've had a problem though, high CPU usage, and i can't figure out why, so maybe you guys can help me out to find the problem. Here's some information that might allow you to better understand my environment. My (very vague, unexperienced and clueless) guess is that opening the torrent with Firefox has something to do with it. When i download a torrent, Firefox automatically downloads and open it with the associated application ( currently µTorrent) - hence the location of the torrent file in the following output (temporary internet files). The weird thing is that when i used to do this with another BitTorrent client, Firefox had the same behaviour, but completed the file download. With µTorrent, the download doesn't complete (when i exit Firefox, it warns me that i am currently still downloading the torrent). So does automatically opening the torrent makes µTorrent use a remote torrent? Enlighten me here, cause i'm lost!TaskInfo 6.0.1.130 output:[Process Pane]|Process| |% CPU| |CPUGraph| |Start Time| |Path|+ Interrupts Time Placeholder Interrupts Time Placeholder+ DPC Time Placeholder DPC Time Placeholder+ System Idle Process System Idle Process+ Windows TaskManager 0.78% 2005-09-24 5:09:31 AM C:WINDOWSsystem32taskmgr.exe+ Firefox 2005-09-24 5:08:05 AM C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox.exe+ TaskInfo Application 0.78% 2005-09-24 5:06:58 AM C:Program FilesTaskInfoTaskInfo.exe+ utorrent-1.1.exe 97.65% 2005-09-24 4:46:14 AM C:Documents and Settingsc0ldfusi0nDesktopincomingsharedcFapps5) Internetutorrent-1.1.exe+ mIRC 2005-09-23 10:04:09 AM C:Program FilescFiRCmirc.exe+ LVCom Server 2005-09-22 10:28:08 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32LVComsX.exe+ Application Layer Gateway Service 2005-09-22 9:36:06 PM C:WINDOWSSystem32alg.exe+ Windows User Mode Driver Manager 2005-09-22 9:36:02 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32wdfmgr.exe+ Generic Host Process for Win32 Services 2005-09-22 9:36:02 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32svchost.exe+ NOD32 Kernel Service 2005-09-22 9:35:56 PM C:Program FilesEsetnod32krn.exe+ Winamp 0.78% 2005-09-22 9:35:52 PM C:Program FilesWinampwinamp.exe+ Trillian 2005-09-22 9:35:52 PM C:Program FilesTrilliantrillian.exe+ CtHelper Application 2005-09-22 9:35:52 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32CTHELPER.EXE+ NOD32 Control Center GUI 2005-09-22 9:35:52 PM C:Program FilesEsetnod32kui.exe+ ATI Desktop Control Panel 2005-09-22 9:35:52 PM C:Program FilesATI TechnologiesATI Control Panelatiptaxx.exe+ iTouch Application 2005-09-22 9:35:52 PM C:Program FilesLogitechiTouchiTouch.exe+ Windows Explorer 2005-09-22 9:35:51 PM C:WINDOWSExplorer.EXE+ ATI External Event Utility EXE Module 2005-09-22 9:35:50 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32Ati2evxx.exe+ Spooler SubSystem App 2005-09-22 9:35:46 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32spoolsv.exe+ Generic Host Process for Win32 Services 2005-09-22 9:35:45 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32svchost.exe+ Generic Host Process for Win32 Services 2005-09-22 9:35:44 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32svchost.exe+ Generic Host Process for Win32 Services 2005-09-22 9:35:44 PM C:WINDOWSSystem32svchost.exe+ Generic Host Process for Win32 Services 2005-09-22 9:35:44 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32svchost.exe+ Generic Host Process for Win32 Services 2005-09-22 9:35:44 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32svchost.exe+ ATI External Event Utility EXE Module 2005-09-22 9:35:44 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32Ati2evxx.exe+ LSA Shell (Export Version) 2005-09-22 9:35:44 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32lsass.exe+ Services and Controller app 2005-09-22 9:35:44 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32services.exe+ Windows NT Logon Application 2005-09-22 9:35:43 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32winlogon.exe+ Client Server Runtime Process 2005-09-22 9:35:42 PM C:WINDOWSsystem32csrss.exe+ Windows NT Session Manager 2005-09-22 9:35:39 PM C:WINDOWSSystem32smss.exe+ System System[System Pane]CPU Clock MHz 2,665 % Idle Pri Threads % CPU 100.00% % Idle CPUs Number 1 Queue for CPU 7Processes 32 Threads 412Thread Sw/s 1,617 HW Ints/s 1,066 Total Ph KB 1,047,344 Free Ph KB 675,732 File Cache KB 115,592 File cache peak KB 322,428Free Virt KB 2,203,364 Committed KB 317,068Paged Pool KB 57,624 NonPaged Pool KB 36,660Max Swap KB 1,572,864 Swap in Use KB 115,128 Page Faults/s 55 Page Ins KB/s 0 Page Outs KB/s 0File Read KB/s 29 File Write KB/s 5File Reads/s 71 File Writes/s 52 Client Read KB/s 0 Client Write KB/s 0Srv Transmit KB/s 0 Srv Receive KB/s 0[Current Process Pane]CMD = "C:Documents and Settingsc0ldfusi0nDesktopincomingsharedcFapps5) Internetutorrent-1.1.exe" "C:DOCUME~1c0ldfusi0nLOCALS~1TEMPhidden.torrent"Curr Dir = C:Program FilesMozilla FirefoxPath = C:Documents and Settingsc0ldfusi0nDesktopincomingsharedcFapps5) Internetutorrent-1.1.exeUser Name = C0LDFUSI0N c0ldfusi0nPID = 3056Virtual KB Curr = 43,784 Peak = 51,736Working Set KB Curr = 1,452 Peak = 6,444Page File KB Curr = 3,084 Peak = 3,360System Pool KB Paged = 54 Nonpaged = 46Private KB = 3,084Handles Count = 420Faults Count = 13,573Objects = USER = 28 GDI = 91Windows = 11Reads = 1,838 Read KB = 72,225Writes = 4,103 Write KB = 64,311Other IOs = 44,612 Other KB = 1,351Windows XP (with latest patches) Task Manager screenshot:Thanks in advance for your help and understanding, keep up the good work!P.S.: Wasn't sure if i should post this in "Found Bugs" (i don't think i've found anything... yet) or "Troubleshooting", feel free to move it if i posted it in an inappropriate secion. ludde
You're using NOD32, you need to add uTorrent to its whitelist.
c0ldfusi0n
It did not fix it, i'm still getting high CPU usage even with µTorrent's executable in NOD32's "AMON" Exclusions list, i'll try to reboot to make sure the settings were saved, and let you know if i still get it.Seeing the two posts below i thought i'd give Eset a well-deserved plug.NOD32's Official Site

Brandy
Yeh, alot of people have been having problems with NOD32.What exactally IS NOD32, and why are so many people using it?NOD32 is a tiny antivirus-app that doesnt use that much memory or space in comparison to for example norton, I use it (NOD32) and I love it haven't got any problems with utorrent because of it though. Guest
Just add utorrent to the IMON exclude list and you will be fine.
segosa
Do we know whether this is NOD32 or uTorrent's fault?
vurlix
It's both NOD32/IMON and µTorrent's fault. Future releases will handle this more gracefully..
Guest
As they said: You're not supposed to exclude it in AMON, it's in IMON.
Guest
NOD32 IMON is responsible for many, many problems in many applications... I suggest you not use it at all!
