Newer version of Utorrent already running

I was in the middle of downloading regular TV shows, and from one moment to the next, it came up with the "Newer version of Utorrent already running, please close Utorrent and try again". I have searched high and low for answers to this and found a few that I followed. I deleted the update.dat file, didn't work. I deleted all torrent files out of the registry, deleted Utorrent and reinstalled, that didn't work either. I am not super computer literate, but can follow instructions quite well, and am looking for any help possible. I hadn't updated, or logged on or off my computer, it just spontaneous gave me that message. I am running windows 10, have Vipre security, which messes with my Utorrent files whenever it updates, but don't think it was at fault this time. Any help will be greatly appreciated, and I am probably out of my league on this site, so please use simple terms so I can hopefully get back to my downloading. Cheers in advance!!
