poopnut Posted July 6, 2016 Report Posted July 6, 2016 I purchased and installed the ad free version of utorrent, but the ads didn't go away. I've tried both the bundled installer as well as the license.btkey on my existing install, on a new install, and on the bundled installer. I also tried to remove all user data before reinstalling utorrent. I've contacted billing support 4 times over the last couple months, but haven't received any reply. Once I even submitted my support request under the pro version, but still nothing. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Anything else I can try?
PiusX Posted July 6, 2016 Report Posted July 6, 2016 That is Pro version something not for discussion on here you need to email them.

I've already emailed them 4 times. It has been at least 2 months and I've not even been acknowledged. 2. This is a troubleshooting issue. uTorrent is not working properly: the ad free version is showing ads, so I'm posting on the bloody troubleshooting forum. 3. The ad free & pro versions are different products & have different support models. If I can't email for issues with the ad free product & I can't post on the forums, then where do I get support?
PiusX Posted July 7, 2016 Report Posted July 7, 2016 This is for the free version of utorrent not the Pro version. Users here aren't for support on the utorrent pro that is through email only.
sinc55 Posted July 9, 2016 Report Posted July 9, 2016 This just happened to me as well. I paid for ad-free and the boxed ad in the lower left corner is gone, but the big banner ad all across the top of the screen is still there. It bugs me and I feel ripped off.

Yep, I totally feel ripped off, too, even though it's only $5. I don't need all the pro version features, so I thought I should at least support the ad free version. My utorrent client still plays ads (including the one in the lower left hand corner that blasts audio randomly) and utorrent support is completely ignoring my support requests. It's actually quite frustrating!
DreadWingKnight Posted July 9, 2016 Report Posted July 9, 2016 If you're not including your transaction ID in your support request through that contact form, that's likely the main reason you're getting ignored.

They SHOULD still respond without it. On the contact form, 6 out of the 7 fields are required. For some bizarre reason, the Order Reference Number is optional...
sinc55 Posted July 9, 2016 Report Posted July 9, 2016 I haven't actually tried to fill out a contact form yet, one reason being that the info I saw said there is no support for the free version anyway.
sinc55 Posted July 10, 2016 Report Posted July 10, 2016 Not sure why, but the ads have disappeared. I didn't reboot or do anything but go in and out of the program a few times. Anyway, it's now good--no ads!

I'm definitely including the transaction ID. I don't know why they aren't responding
poopnut Posted July 10, 2016 Author Report Posted July 10, 2016 I was able to resolve this. Backup C:\Users\poopnut\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent Uninstall uTorrent with "Remove my settings" checked. Remove the HKCU\Software\uTorrentPlus registry folder, which has a "license" key in it. Install uTorrent Free as you normally would. Open the license.btkey they send you when you buy Ad Free. Copy torrent files from backup to C:\Users\poopnut\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent I chose to copy only the .torrent files from the backup and open them using File > Add Torrent... I might have been able to just copy over the entire folder since it was probably the HKCU\Software\uTorrentPlus\license registry key that was mucking things up. I used to be a Pro user and my license expired, so I'm guessing the new Ad Free license wasn't replacing the expired Pro license. Now I have to go and restore all my settings...
