haimtime
I have Optimum Online, and just got taken off their cap. I've looked at other forums and they say to use the max upload/download for an hour, then bring everything back to 0. Is that the consensus, or is there a better idea floating around so I don't get capped again.
Ultima
Zero? Bringing everything to zero makes it unlimited...At any rate, Optimum Online is a grimy ISP, so they consider extended uploading as being a server much like a web server. Use the scheduler to stop your torrents every now and then.

Exactly what you said to do, stop the uploads and downloads for an hour.Is this the general consensus. 1 hour on, 1 hour off
Switeck
Sadly, yes -- that's the best recommendation for right now.ALSO, don't download or upload at full speed. Probably causes them warning flags if you even go over half.
Ultima
@haimtime: The thing is, 0KiB/s in µTorrent means unlimited (besides speed limiting when reaching seeding goal), which is what I was geting at. And yeah, 1 hour on, 1 hour off is probably all you can do at the moment.
MonarchX
How often should I stop using the scheduler? Every 3 hours or so? Also, for HOW LONG? For an hour?
Switeck
Someone was told by an Optimum Online tech that the best is download+upload 1 hour on, 1 hour totally off.I do not know if that is right or wrong as I do not have that ISP.
alwayscamp
i'n all seruisness going full speed for an hour is not a good idea either.I am currently on optonline - - i don't have a choice where i live, and i have been capped more then once trying to figure out for how long i can keep fully uploading with out getting capped and one hour was not good enough either.I woun't consider myself a heavy downloader as i know people who download a h*** aof alot more then me but in the last 11 weeks i have uploaded more then 600GB, all without getting capped once.the secret. I use a little option in µTorrent called Protocall encryption set to forced and allow legacy incoming. since that feature was introduced i seldomly turn µTorrent off and usually only to shut down my computer - say weekly, microsoft updates or program install.as quoted from the faqDoes µTorrent support Protocol Encryption (PE)?Yes, as of version 1.4.1 beta build 407. It is compatible with Azureus 2.4.0.0 and BitComet 0.63.Protocol Encryption (PE) is a joint specification between Azureus and µTorrent. It is designed to bypass throttling and/or blocking of BitTorrent traffic by an ISP.You can choose Protocol Encryption's mode of operation in BitTorrent. Here is an explanation of the various options you can choose from: Disabled: Does not encrypt outgoing connections, but will accept encrypted incoming connections. Enabled: Attempts to encrypt outgoing connections, but will fall back to an unencrypted mode if the connection fails. Force: Attempts to encrypt outgoing connections, and will NOT fall back to an unencrypted mode if the connection fails. Allow legacy incoming connections enables or disables incoming legacy (non-encrypted) connections. All modes will accept incoming encrypted connections (and the encryption is 2-way)!It is NOT recommended to turn off "Allow legacy incoming connections", unless you cannot have any non-encrypted connections (typically in conjunction with Forced), in which case turning off "Allow legacy incoming connections" is acceptable.trust me it works
