grunhart Posted February 3, 2017 Report Posted February 3, 2017 I recently upgraded my internet speed from 110Mb/s to 155Mb/s. My ISP is RCN. They had to install a newer 24-channel modem. Right away, the speed increase was there when downloading torrents. My total download bandwidth in uTorrent jumped up to about 19MB/s, the maximum you would expect. Great, that was just what I wanted. However, a few days later -- with absolutely no changes on my part to settings of uTorrent or anything else -- downloads suddenly max out at a little under 3MB/s. I've tried many different torrents, tried unplugging my modem and router, but no improvement. Speedtest.net shows my connection is still just as fast as it should be, actually a little faster at 161Mb/s. RCN never seemed to "throttle" me before, even when I was at 110Mb/s I still got the 12MB/s or so you would expect. Any ideas what is going on? Thank you.
DreadWingKnight Posted February 3, 2017 Report Posted February 3, 2017 Have you tested with torrents like slackware or ubuntu?
grunhart Posted February 3, 2017 Author Report Posted February 3, 2017 Ubuntu was same story, actually a little slower than others maxing out at 1.8MB/s

grunhart Posted February 4, 2017 Author Report Posted February 4, 2017 Slackware download is similarly slow
