3.5.x Beta

Recommended Posts

Well, looks to me that uT process is  "entitled" to handle it's own auto-run/install registry settings (since it is acting also as  it's own installer when you update a build) , so again, false positive...  Maybe you should alert/report  this to M$... :)

PS: maybe double-check if the exe was "unblocked" in properties (=safe)...

build 44266, but 44050 too.

Sometime when I select multiple torrents (to stop, change label and so on) the action works on some torrents and not on other.

If I pause and resume all torrents then the action works on all torrents selected.

Are you sure it is not some kind of  GUI related slowdown? Have you tried to wait a bit for it to refresh? I've see similar delays before...

I don't think so: After the "pause & resume" it doesn't happen more until I restart uT.

The label counters show less torrents there are, after p&r the counters are ok.

There is a problem while translating this new text, as well as in the last beta build 44266 as in the stable one 44294:

"Your license key file has been saved as %s in your Documents directory. Keep track of this — you may need it to reactivate."

Problem makes the "—" sign --> this should be replaced with the standard "-" sign to work.

Here is my log-file which I get: http://www.should.keepfree.de/div/utorrent.exe.log.zip

New installer in 44294 ? Not able to just replace the exe with it with current settings.dat :( , you too?

I recognized the same. The original new "installer" version is that: http://www.should.keepfree.de/utorrent-3.5_setup.exe

After installing you get the real and smaller http://www.should.keepfree.de/utorrent-3.5.exe

Also the installer version doesn't use any translations anymore.

The problem is that you cannot just replace your old exe , and if using a standalone location (with settings.dat) - that installer will not  "just run" as before ... :(

I needed to manually extract the "that "real" uT (called Carrier.exe) inside that archive/installer). Do you think it is better that way? Surely more complicated...

They're working on the new client, feature wise I think this version is "done" Probably won't ever see anything beyond 3.5.x

So, that'd probably be Maximum x 2 with the "new" client... ;)

There was mention of it becoming a "browser" type client:

https://www.neowin.net/news/utorrent-is-moving-to-your-web-browser-with-its-next-major-update

https://torrentfreak.com/utorrent-will-move-to-the-web-browser-170421/

People will then stick with their current version - I know many, many people still use 2.2.1 or less anyway regardless of 3.5 being available - or move on to another client.

I see. So what "state" is it in (beta/stable) and what features are still missing (like rss downloader)?

I've not seen or heard anything more since. Maybe it's been shelved?

We'll have to wait for more news or an official announcement.

I certainly wouldn't want any sort of browser-style client - I'll stick with the stand-alone version.

My version is quite old (3.5.1 b44321) but the one thing that they seem to have ignored is the type of adverts they serve up. I don't mind adware if the product does what I want it to do. But the last few beta releases I've used over the last couple of years have sent my Malware Bytes into a frenzy with "Malicious Website Blocked" constantly popping up while uT is running. It's definitely uT because as soon as I stop it, the pop-ups stop.

Fair enough if you have ad-supported software but at least be mindful of the quality of what you serve up. I'm seriously thinking of going back to an earlier version of uT or even a different client.

It's the most recent beta & not old at all - 3.5.1_44321 is from 12 December 2017.

I'm surprised to haven't updated to stable 3.5.1_44332 from 19 December 2017.

The problem I get is the more recent the version, the more and more malicious website [blocked] warnings I get from Malware Bytes with the advertising uT is trying to deliver. When I run it now, my screen barely spends a second without a pop-up being on the screen until I exit uT. Which is why I download what I want and run rather than leaving stuff seeding; it's  waay to intrusive when it runs.

I realise this is not what torrent sharing is all about and I'm ashamed to admit to such selfish practices. That's why I'm seriously thinking of back-tracking to an earlier version (less warnings).

advertising

Tweak a few advanced settings and add some host entries, and say bye bye to that.

Doing so is nothing new - many have been doing this for years.

My hosts file has hundreds of entries that have accumulated over the years but as fast as I add them, uT is delivering even more new ones.

As for tweaking some entries, it does seem a shame that all new uT installs reset most of these to poke adverts at us and we have to go thru them all over again. It gets tiresome and annoying keep doing it. Why does uT keep resetting them on every new install?? Perhaps there should be an option to store such entries elsewhere (INI file??) rather than having them ebedded within the program. Add the fact I can't move/reseize the program panes makes the display totally crap these days.

Even worse now that we can't just copy the EXE over the old one and just run it like we used to. I don't see why we have to extract the real program from the installer to stop this ludicrous behaviour; there should be different download options for this (installer and program only).

The whole uT experience is getting worse with every new release, both beta and stable versions.
