islamlife
Does this mean I have open ports? It looks like connections have been made through several ports?!?! I don't get it. Should I be forwarding port to 192.168.20.2 because I have been using 192.168.10.1 like portforward.com advised. Connection Log: Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 209.161.230.86:21366 from 192.168.10.2:2330Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 84.41.249.41:7344 from 192.168.10.2:2331Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 212.76.50.41:13425 from 192.168.10.2:2335Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 68.0.165.69:32459 from 192.168.10.2:2337Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 89.138.125.206:16385 from 192.168.10.2:2333Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 89.138.125.206:16385 from 192.168.10.2:2333Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 72.38.238.130:10660 from 192.168.10.2:2338Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 68.0.165.69:32459 from 192.168.10.2:2337Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 192.168.10.1:47097 from 65.33.203.137:4784Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 72.38.238.130:10660 from 192.168.10.2:2338Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 213.58.91.95:18223 from 192.168.10.2:2339Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 217.54.140.190:6881 from 192.168.10.2:2340Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 192.168.10.1:47097 from 65.33.203.137:4784Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 65.27.240.213:2333 from 89.138.125.206:16385Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 192.168.10.1:47097 from 65.33.203.137:4784Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 192.168.10.1:80 from 192.168.10.2:2344Sat, 15 Jul 2006 19:56:32 +0000 TCP connection accepted to 68.148.32.117:36067 from 192.168.10.2:2341
Ultima
Those are all outbound connections.
SL83
No, there are some inbound connections there too, depending on what his IP is.islamlife, you forward the port to whichever IP address your computer is ASSIGNED. If your computer is assigned 192.168.10.1 then you forward the port to that IP. If your computer is assigned 192.168.10.2, then you forward to THAT IP.I thought you had statically assigned the IP, so you should know exactly where you should be forwarding your ports. Ultima
Oof they were all stuck between lines that were outbound...
SL83
Yeah lol. I showed you, huh?I have a feeling that this guy didn't forward his ports properly to the right IP address. Sounds like he followed the portforward.com directions to the tee. Hit any key. Where is the any key?
Ultima
Yeah, still doesn't seem like ports are forwarded correctly, to me either. I still say he should try uninstalling Norton to make sure it's not interfering...
islamlife
Do you think it could be Norton though? I don't have a Norton Firewall and turn off internet worm protection when I am trying to figure all this out. The static IP is 192.168.10.1 and that's what portforward.com said to forward to. I will see if I still have my Norton cd and if I do, I will uninstall it and then see if it helps.
islamlife
I uninstalled Norton Systemworks, made sure Windows firewall was off, made sure router firewall was off, and double checked my port forward and nothing! Are there any ports that I SHOULD be using? What I did was just allow Utorrent to randomly select ports and I would try those. Any advice?
Ultima
Random as in the button, not the checkbox, right?
islamlife
Right.
islamlife
BTW, should I be using the DMZ IP? I am not currently but I read something about it on portforward.com and was curious. I have also tried to trigger the port in my router. I do not have port triggering and port forwarding enabled for the same port at the same time. In Utorrent, I have "enable UPnP mapping" unchecked as per portforward.com instructions.
Ultima
Honestly, you'll find that there have been a LOT of problems with ports not forwarding for people using SurfBoard modems all over the forums... not sure what to say, if you've already tried all our suggestions =T
SL83
Port forwarding shouldn't have anything to do with surfboard modems unless it's a modem/router combo. Since he has a SB5101, it's just a regular cable modem. All the forwarding of ports will be handled by the router. Because the modem comes before the router, it doesn't even factor into the whole setup anyway. The port forwarding is only between the router and computers behind the router. Ultima
I don't recall a time I was ever able to completely help someone troubleshoot a network using SurfBoard, whether it was a modem+router combo or not. And yeah, I know his SurfBoard is modem-only.
SL83
In response to UltimaI would have to say it is only a coincidence. There are ways of filtering ports via the modem, but that is ALL DOCSIS compliant cable modems. Not just Surfboards. And that would be done by the ISP. I myself have a SBV5120, and have not had a single issue of forwarding ports, or anything else. I've setup and maintained various home and business networks utilizing SurfBoard modems and haven't run into a single issue. The only conclusion that I can come to would be 1) He is not port forwarding properly. 2) His ISP is blocking ports. 3) He has a system issue/software conflict that is causing his problems. In response to islamlifeIf you directly connect your cable modem to your computer, what happens? Try connecting your cable modem directly to your computer, and then visit a port scanning website. Tell us if there are any ports that show up as "Closed". Closed is OK. If they all show up as "Stealth" then that is a problem. Let us know what happens. because you're using RoadRunner, and I've successfully hosted servers on RoadRunner, I don't believe they are blocking ports. It may depend on your area, but I would most likely say that either you aren't forwarding ports properly, or you have some software on your computer that was never uninstalled properly, and it is causing issues. But please get back to us on what happens when your computer is directly connected to the modem. jsillup
islamlife: Steve Gibson's ShieldsUP!! is a good port scanner you could try.
islamlife
I have found a fix for the problem!! I downloaded Azureus, tested the port through their "check port" button. It came back OK! So, what I did was try some torrents to see what kind of numbers I would get. I get a steady 45-100 kB/s and that is AMAZINGLY better than the average 1-2 kB/s I was getting with Uttorent. Seems to be working fine for most people here just something about my setup that is conflicting with Utorrent. I am happy now Thank you all for trying to help.Merged double post(s):jsillup, I tried Shield Up with my router and EVERY port was stealth. I haven't tried anything with the modem alone. Maybe I will see just to see when I get a free moment. I didn't even have to forward a port with Azureus and everything is green and I pick up from seeds!! I am SO GLAD. This has been a pain in the but.EDIT by silverfire: The edit function exists for a very good reason. Use it or eventually I'll just get lazy enough to delete instead of merge
