Distort My Image
I just recently purchased a Thinkpad T60 from IBM, and need to re-forward all my ports for uTorrent. The only problem is, it isn't as easy as just looking up the model number of my linksys wireless adaptor like I could on my desktop. I'm not exactly sure what brand of wireless card I have...in the device manager, it just says "Wireless 11a/b/g Mini PCI Express port." I think it's made by IBM, because when I selected that particular card on their website, it was labeled "Thinkpad." There was an intel version too, which makes me think Thinkpad is the brand of the card? I have no idea where to find a walkthrough on how to forward ports for this card, and would really appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.Side note: There is an Intel/1000 device in the network connections tab of the device manager, too, but I don't think that has to do with wireless...right? abbad0n
The Intel/1000 is probably gigabit ethernet, so not wireless. As for the wireless card, you shouldn't have to modifiy anything there. The only time you need to do port forwarding is on a router or other device that supports NAT. Unless you use a very unusuall wifi card...And check any software firewalls you use as well. Distort My Image
I'm not sure I'm understanding you...when you do port forwarding, you do it for your router, not your wireless card? Well that helps a whole ton, man...thanks for clearing up my obvious confusion...
SL83
Correct.
Distort My Image
This is a little off-topic for this board, but I'll just throw it out there...when I am following the side-instructions to set up a Static IP, I can only see 1 DNS server number, when I need an alternate as well. Is it okay to just make one up in the "advanced" options?
SL83
Leave the Alternate one blank. Also, what is the IP of the DNS server you have listed? Does it start with 192?
Distort My Image
Yes, it starts with 192. I ended up making an alternate dns up...and everything still seems to work fine. The only problem is, when I shut down my computer, all the network settings went away, and I had to re-configure them upon start-up. Any way to avoid that? SL83
The made up one won't work at all. And then if your main DNS server just happens to go down for some reason, it won't do anything. So just leave it blank And those settings shouldn't change back after a reboot. That's very odd.
Firon
Try using 4.2.2.1 for DNS, if you need a reliable one.
