Ultima
Set net.max_halfopen to about 35-40. And yeah, select your upload speed from the list.
bread
ok....i have a couple of questions...the upload is determined by the peers connected right? If this is so, then my problem is no peers are connected to upload to. To test this, I went out and got a torrent with a lot of peers...during the download all the peers were connected, but once i completed the download, the connected peers went to 0 and occasionally there would be one connected peer for one second. Is this a problem?
Ultima
That can be caused by bad settings too.
bread
the speed has not changed...
Ultima
Do you have Protocol Encryption and peer.lazy_bitfield enabled?
bread
Protocol Encryption is disabled and peer.lazy_bitfield says true which I assume means enabled. Should Protocol Encyption be enabled?
Ultima
Yah, try that.
bread
okay i turned protocol encryption on and resarted utorrent. For the first three minutes the upload speed was great but after that it dropped to before 0 for a while then 1 k/Bs for 30 seconds...
Ultima
Try forcing the encryption and disabling legacy incoming connections. This might cut the number of people you can connect to down, but it'll help us see if it's ISP throttling.
bread
i did that and resarted...i got one connected peer and the upload speed stayed around 2 k/Bs but when the peer was disconnected the upload speed dropped to 0 again...
Ultima
Hm... sounds like possible ISP throttling (though it's odd that it only affects seeding, especially when peer.lazy_bitfield is enabled).
bread
what is that
Ultima
ISP throttling means the ISP is blocking traffic for whatever reason, in this case, maybe BitTorrent. What ISP are you using?

Switeck
SBC has been hostile towards BitTorrent in the past -- they used to block seeding.(Which peer.lazy_bitfield=TRUE should combat.)They may be doing something again.
Dark Shroud
They're not as bad as they used to be. On their basic connection I was getting about 40-50KBs upload and on the pro I'm getting 50-60KBs. It can jump into the 90KBs for a few seconds here and there. Those speeds are with encryption and allowed incoming legacy connections.
bread
what are your complete settings? ill compare them to mine.. how do you know if the files are encryted?
Ultima
You don't, what Dark Shroud was talking about was Protocol Encryption.
bread
oh yeah, sorry. Ive had protocol encrytion enabled this whole time...also ive noticed that the only time i can upload is when im connected to a peer. Why can I not connect to any peers in the swarm? should i be connecting to the peers or seeders? Both are look like 0(30). WHen I do connect to a peer, the file uploads until the avaliabity is 2 and then it disconnects. What is going on!?!?!
bread
i think i may have discovered the problem. Could it be the OinK is the problem? Because all the OinK torrents i have tried will not connect to peers. then today i tried mininova and i connected to 2 peers and uploaded alomost twice the files size...Could it be? Ultima
Yes... you should've told us earlier that it was OiNK, their torrents are known to be overseeded, ALL the time. Nothing you can do about it on OiNK.
bread
i just thought about it now...sorry...why is OiNK in so high demand then?
Ultima
Because everyone there fights for a high ratio, and end up overseeding, which essentially kicks the smaller and unlucky seeders out
bread
got it...is there a reason on OiNK i got download speed 100+ k/Bs but now on mininova it stays under 50?
Ultima
Same reason? Since people are forced to keep their ratio on OiNK (and a lot of other private trackers), they have to upload. On public trackers, people can simply set their upload rates very low, use BitComet, or whatever else, and essentially leech without returning much, and they can't get punished for it.
