Is software firewall neccessary?

hi

reading through several threads about firewalls i noticed a few posts by a certain admin who says software firewall is not needed if you router has one.

Is this true and if so are their any qualifications to add?

If you have a router, it's not needed. Only inbound port blocking works well anyway. If your system's already compromised, then a PFW can be too.

Some viruses, trojans, and spyware add themselves to common firewalls exclusion lists so their activity is NOT noticed by the firewall.
