louwin Posted October 7, 2018 Report Posted October 7, 2018 I've set mine up to NOT update automatically yet, every new version is automatically updated and I lose ALL my settings and all my column headings.... Why is this?
louwin Posted October 21, 2018 Author Report Posted October 21, 2018 Here is the requested screenshot. Thanks in anticipation....

louwin Posted October 21, 2018 Author Report Posted October 21, 2018 Windows 10 and it is bang up to date as all Windows 10 systems are.... But as far as I know uTorrent has always updated automatically with NO regard to the settings. Did I also mention I lose ALL my column headings too and have to reset them up EVERY time it updates without my permission

louwin Posted October 22, 2018 Author Report Posted October 22, 2018 uTorrent 3.5.4 Build 44632 Both files are in ..\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent\ There are also LOTS of settings.dat.9999999999.bad files (40) going back to february 2018 and settings.dat.old.9999999999.bad (36).... and 11 files that look like resume.dat.1426205030.bad example settings.dat.1539015985.bad and settings.dat.old.1539015985.bad uTorrent doesn't appear in either Program Files folders? Thanks for your help
rafi Posted October 22, 2018 Report Posted October 22, 2018 LOTS definitely does not sound good, and can explain strange behaviors. I suggest to exit uT, make a backup copy and delete the current settings.dat/settings.old , and start-over with mine (a copy is at my sig, change whatever needs changing - paths etc) . Monitor if you still have issues, or bad copies.
louwin Posted October 22, 2018 Author Report Posted October 22, 2018 Your settings file is 3.4.3 and mine is 3.5.4. Also you don't include a settings.dat.old. Will this be a problem. Also will replacing MY settings file lose my completed downloads and my "in progress" ones too? Won't YOUR settings.dat file start another chain of bad files? I assume I should rename YOUR settings file to standard? Shouldn't the exe file be in one of the Program Files folders? Depending on whether it is 32 or 64 bit? Isn't unusual to have an exe in the Roaming folder? When I said the files went back to February I meant February 2017....
rafi Posted October 22, 2018 Report Posted October 22, 2018 It should be fully compatible with 3.5.4. No need for .old. Just remember to backup yours, delete your .old, and replace. Nothing will hapen to your downloads, those are stored in resume.dat. >Won't YOUR settings.dat file start another chain of bad files? No idea, this is what we test is for, so see if your issues (including this one) is gone. >I assume I should rename YOUR settings file to standard? Correct >When I said the files went back to February I meant February 2017.... As long as you see *recent* bad files, this is not good.
louwin Posted October 23, 2018 Author Report Posted October 23, 2018 Okay, I have put a .save on my settings file and copied yours in. Then I changed to use my column headings and my directories and am running now. Fingers crossed. It said updating to 3.5.4 immediately but didn't do anything.
rafi Posted October 23, 2018 Report Posted October 23, 2018 You should probably also uncheck the auto-update which is enabled in my settings, tho, I think it does not work anyways due to a bug they have.
louwin Posted October 24, 2018 Author Report Posted October 24, 2018 Thanks, I have already done that And I've changed all the bandwidth and Queueing settings.... Sorry to complain but what unusual options do you have enabled? :? (with all due respect!) Normally, I go to a torrent site, select a dozen or twenty torrents and activate them. Within a few minutes, 5 or 10 in the most, 10 or 15 of them will start downloading. Within an hour or two they are ALL fully downloaded.... With your settings (an hour later) 7 of them are still "Finding peers" and 10 of them are "Connecting to peers".... These are torrents I download every week.... After a LONG time ONE will start downloading, when finished another ONE will start downloading. Maybe a second one will download slowly. On my settings file I get 1.55MBps. On yours, I'm lucky to get 1MBps after a LONG idle.... At the moment I'm getting 0.04k download rate.... With LOTS of active torrents queued.... NOTHING downloading.... That is the situation at the moment. I will stop uT and restart on my settings file and see if this persists.... WOW! After requeueing the torrents (I lost them ALL when I swapped settings BTW) I had JUST activated they started coming down at full speed again.... NO "Finding peers" etc etc.... I'm sorry but I think there's something seriously incompatible with my setup and your settings file
rafi Posted October 24, 2018 Report Posted October 24, 2018 Quote Sorry to complain but what unusual options do you have enabled? :? (with all due respect!) Those that are listed in my "best practice tips" thread (link in my sig. If this setting is not as good for you as yours (using the same torrent version), just revert back to yours... Older releases like 3.4.2 might have been better at connecting to more peers. Quote WOW! After requeueing the torrents I had JUST activated they started coming down at full speed again.... ^ with your settings or mine? Queueing are as you set it up (# of concurrent downloads). BTW, you'd need to revert to use your old port if you have opened it in your router/firewall. Also, you can post your settings here, and I can try it out myself...
louwin Posted October 24, 2018 Author Report Posted October 24, 2018 I mean NO disrespect with my comments. Maybe what you said about the port might be it. I had changed to 40 concurrent DLs and ULs in Queueing and 800 maximum DLs in Bandwidth in YOUR settings too. I activated about 14 torrents and on your settings NOTHING was downloading (0.04k speed). I reverted to my settings file and lost ALL 14 torrents I had activated. I reactivated them all (they were still in the Torrents folder I use) and they ALL started @ 1.48M at the moment. I'm retired and have school pickups of my grandkids so am going to hit the sack. Talk to you again tomorrow....
louwin Posted October 25, 2018 Author Report Posted October 25, 2018 Here are my settings.... I had to change the .dat to a .jpg and it says the upload failed so I don't know if it has come across????
rafi Posted October 25, 2018 Report Posted October 25, 2018 MIA... Just host it here: https://www.filedropper.com/
louwin Posted October 25, 2018 Author Report Posted October 25, 2018 Here is the link? http://www.filedropper.com/settings_6
rafi Posted October 25, 2018 Report Posted October 25, 2018 Got it. Nothing special about it, mine is preferred (with correct port forwarding). Good luck!
louwin Posted October 26, 2018 Author Report Posted October 26, 2018 Thanks. So, basically, the fact that my uT updates even though I have set it to NOT update is a bug and I can do nothing about it? I'm not bothered by the update as such just the fact that it resets ALL my column headings to the default selection. I have many more columns activated and it is painful to have to reset them all every time uT updates Plus I use 4 alternate directories (and bandwidths etc etc) which also all have to be reset with each update
rafi Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 There is a bug with "send detailed info..." , for me if only updates when it is eneabled . You can try enabling it, although it sounds strange... If if did not happen with my settings, you can consider to re-try with a proper port-forwarding.
louwin Posted October 27, 2018 Author Report Posted October 27, 2018 Just "trying" with your settings will achieve nothing unless an update occurs to test "your settings".... With my limited knowledge of uT I would imagine settings don't effect whether or not an update is forced onto the user???? I have been using uT for YEARS and it has always happened to me. Could it be the fact that it is in Roaming and not Program Files cause it!?
rafi Posted October 27, 2018 Report Posted October 27, 2018 No, unless you have access issues as non-admin. And right , you need to regress to an older version to try update out... Indfeen, my install is completely removed from roaming , and is standalone under programs (not standard). I don't think it should matter either unless you have some improper registry keys (which you can search for). For updates to work I needed to hard-link the roaming\utorrent path to my standalone path. So raoming should be fine too.
