froggywhite Posted July 18, 2006 Report Posted July 18, 2006 Can someone help me please!!! I am relatively new to utorrent and have been having some success with downloading recently but I keep on getting the amber or red icon and my speed sticks about the 15-20 kBs rarely goes any higher, i have windows sp2 firewall and have the ports allowed, i dont have a router, i have a speedtouch 330 modem and avg antivirus (free version). Can anyone help me with my problem please, i have tested the port and it said that the port is not open but I cant seem to find away to open it and increase my downloads!!! - allways try to use a good seeded and peered torrent but still no joy. Thanks Froggy
froggywhite Posted July 18, 2006 Author Report Posted July 18, 2006 Tried the openoffice torrent as suggested, speed maxed out at about 240 kB/s fastest i have seen it, does that help any? this time the amber triangle was showing at the bottom?
Ultima Posted July 18, 2006 Report Posted July 18, 2006 What does the port checker in the Speed Guide say?
froggywhite Posted July 18, 2006 Author Report Posted July 18, 2006 It says "Error! Port 62749 does not appear to be open" but if i dont have a router I cant find out what to do next in www.portforwarding as the instructions only apply to various routers (i hope know what im trying to say!!)
Ultima Posted July 18, 2006 Report Posted July 18, 2006 You're 100% sure you have no firewalls, and no router, right? Are you behind someone else's network, or is this your own?
froggywhite Posted July 18, 2006 Author Report Posted July 18, 2006 I have windows firewall but I have added utorrent and the port i mentioned as an exception, def no router, i have avg antivirus the free version without a firewall, i have spybot search and destroy, spyware blaster and ad aware but i can find anything that mentions blocking ports in there settings, i also uninstalled them all and tried utorrent then and it was still either the red icon or amber icon??I am not behind someone elses network it is my own.I also have peer guardian 2 but i hardly ever use it and it is disbled at the moment,
Ultima Posted July 18, 2006 Report Posted July 18, 2006 What ISP are you using? Sounds like they're interfering... Also, have you tried another torrent client (Azureus) to see if it's the same problem?
froggywhite Posted July 18, 2006 Author Report Posted July 18, 2006 I am with Virgin.net, i have tried azureus and its slower thats why i changed to utorrent. If my isp are to blame is there anything i can do to prevent it happening?
silverfire Posted July 18, 2006 Report Posted July 18, 2006 If it's your ISP, then you have two options: 1. enable encryption, and 2. if it doesn't work, change ISP's.
Switeck Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 I recommend trying BitTornado as a quick-and-dirty check over using Azureus...BitTornado may run slow (due to python) but it has few features to confuse you with, unlike Azureus.
Ultima Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 But Azureus' UPnP implementation is pretty good, AFAIK, so if it can get through, then it might just be a problem with µTorrent.
froggywhite Posted July 19, 2006 Author Report Posted July 19, 2006 Right I have made a few steps forward!!! My connection icon now show the green tick icon!!!! but when i check my ports in speed checker it says "Warning! Port 62749 can not be checked. Your browser is setup to connect through a proxy. This script will not work through proxied connections" any ideas what i need to do now? remembering i am an idiot!
Ultima Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 If it's green, it's probably fine. Try the openoffice.org torrents. If you can get good speeds, then you likely have everything set up properly (portforward wise). Make sure everything else is fine, such as Speed Guide settings and such.
