korndog2003
Please instead of broadband reports add www.speakeasy.net/speedtest this is a more accurate speed test! Thanks
Ultima
It's all relative depending on where you are in the world. Anyway, dslreports.com/speedtest links to the speakeasy speed test as one of the test servers, so I really doubt it's any better if it's actually the same. bigflavor
See how fast you can download a 1 MB file from a server on a backbone:ftp://ftp1.optonline.net/test1
Nefarious
Please instead of broadband reports add www.speakeasy.net/speedtest this is a more accurate speed test! ThanksI agree with this, of all the speed tests i've seen this is the most reliable for me, but as said before the dslreports speed test has a mirror on speakeasy, so maybe just changing the default mirror?i always get a 50kbps upload speed on dslreports... annoying when other tetss rate it as 150+ and i know it can do almost 200kbps easy
tjobo
Very good speedtest. The kind of people who needs to check their bandwith usually need simple and straightforward information, like this was. Would be great as an alternative to dslreport, I hope ludde adds it. dAbReAkA
dslreports is better.. speakeasy's servers are all in the USA.. i have a slow connection to them.. dslreports however provides different locations.. if i choose a server in my country it performs a lot better compared to what i can get from USA.. rosie
I checked my speed and the download time is 737 and the upload is 172. How come it takes over 12 hours to download a soap opera? Got any suggestions?
Ultima
http://www.utorrent.com/setup_guide.phpWe don't care what you're downloading, and there is no guaranteed amount of time that a torrent should take to finish.
Switeck
The long delay on a particular torrent is either due to few seeders or misconfiguration on your own part.µTorrent can be made to run VERY badly or not at all just by using ridiculous settings. silverfire
You guys DO realize that Speakeasy is one of the sites that broadbandreports links to for their speed tests right?
Nefarious
yes that we know, however it must be the whole using java to make the tests, cauze using the broadband test mirror speakeasy i get somethen like this:Your download speed : 265 kbps or 33.1 KB/sec.Your upload speed : 48 kbps or 6 KB/sec. (note this)and using the www.speakeasy.net/speedtest I get:Download Speed: 401 kbps (50.1 KB/sec transfer rate)Upload Speed: 221 kbps (27.6 KB/sec transfer rate)now, i dont care for the download speed, but saying i have 50kbps for upload really doesn help when selecting the speed guide

Game90
this is what i get if i use dslreports Your download speed : 145.6 kbps or 18.2 KB/sec.Your upload speed : 176 kbps or 22 KB/sec.using http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/Download Speed: 2550 kbps (318.8 KB/sec transfer rate)Upload Speed: 140 kbps (17.5 KB/sec transfer rate)none of them is nowhere close to my advertised speed (6500kbps/384kbps)either my ISP sucks, or the routing paths between USA and my country suck. 1NFECTi0N
All the speedtests are verry inaccurate (specially for those who have fast connections). According to Speakeasy I have a 1/0,5 Mbps connection (dslreports isn't much better). Because I live in the Netherlands (that's why my English is this bad ), I get much better speeds when I use a testserver, that is located in the Netherlands. Like speedtest.nl: 7437/1002 kbps. (I've got a 8/1,2 Mbit connection, so this is quite accurate.)Little Tut:For all the n00bs, who don't know what they're paying for, the best way of finding out is probably looking at the bill. It might say the name of your connection (a stupid name like economic, regular or something else) otherwhise you can look at the price (it might even say your connectionspeed, so you can stop looking ). Now you simply go to the site of your ISP and compare the name/price of your bill with the products they are offering. Most of the time your speed is given in kbps (larger number ). Now just divide your upload speed* by 10 to get your maximum upload speed for uTorrent in kB/s.*There are a lot of ISP's where the uploadspeed is diffecult to find. It might be on a sepperate page with all the other specs (max. number of POP3 e-mails, webspace etc.). But most times there're 2 number given. Example: 4000/500 kbps. In this case the first number indicates your download speed, and the second (which you want to know) your upload speed (in this case 500 kbps, which makes your max. upload speed 500/10 = 50 kB/s in uTorrent). dAbReAkA
1NFECTi0N, http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?more=1scroll down to Netherlands, and test them.. how's that?actually the first one points exactly to speedtest.nl..
Steffe
1NFECTi0N: Actually, that would be divide "kbps" by 8 I.e 24MBit/s is 3MB/s.
Switeck
He's going by the 80% useable rule-of-thumb.1000 kilobits/sec divided by 8 = 125 KiloBytes/sec times 80% useable = 100 KiloBytes/sec useable...or just divide the starting number by 10.
