ut3k4
Using 1.6 on Win98SE, sometimes the computer gets stuck when exiting uTorrent. This can happen regardless of whether there are running torrents on not.I also noticed that the uTorrent process takes a while to stop even after the program window is destroyed. dAbReAkA
it needs some time to stop the torrents properly.. it's not supposed to take longer than 15 seconds, if it does then it might be a bug..
ut3k4
What exactly does it need to stop? And if that is the case, showing a progress indicator might be nice. 15 seconds sounds like an overkill, though.Whatever it is doing at shutdown, I guess this is the part that fails and makes the whole OS go stuck. dAbReAkA
it has to "tell" all the trackers that u stop the torrents and how much u have uploaded/downloaded.. u might not want to lose traffic it's not supposed to take much time.. but it cant go over 15 seconds.. that's the limit
Switeck
If you have UPnP and/or DHT enabled, it might take longer than otherwise.
Firon
15 seconds is sadly not enough sometimes. Sometime in the future it'll actually show an "Exiting..." dialog or something.
ut3k4
UPnP was off, DHT on.Mind you, by "getting stuck" I mean literally that -- I have to reboot. The long while it takes the process to destroy was just an additional side note.Is there a full explanation somewhere why this lengthy shutdown is necessary? As I see it, it can just disappear. Other peers would soon find out the IP is not responding, and that's it, no? About "updating the trackers", I was using public ones, so I assume no info needs to be sent. dAbReAkA
Firon, u may need a minute or so
Firon
You still have to send a stop event to the tracker, public or not. End of story. The more torrents you have, and the less responsive the tracker is (which is common with public trackers), the more likely you'll need the full 15 seconds. Switeck
On Win 9x/ME, you cannot reliably run µTorrent with more than 100 connections unless you run the special registry patch to increase connections beyond that amount...even then you may not be able to!
