Not using router

172.16.0.0/12 - This block is set aside for use in private networks.

Its intended use is documented in [RFC1918]. Addresses within this

block should not appear on the public Internet.

According to the RFC documentation, you're behind a router. Additionally, I can see your external IP address since I'm a moderator, and it does not match the IP address you posted.

Thanks for your replies. I am on wireless broadband. The cable that comes directly from my antenna is plugged into the lan socket of my laptop. The wrong IP address is what confuses me. When I check my status on my network connection i have the adress as stated earlier but when i do the tests i am shown an address similar to my DNS address. I don't know what i'm doing wrong but when i test port forwarding it is always "not open"
