chinchillan
Hi,I just started trying to use utorrent, however after installing and selecting something to download nothing happens. I believe there must be something that I must change for my set up because I'm not using a direct connection but through a Linksys router.Could anyone tell me what settings I must use to be able to download through my router?ThanksDan

chinchillan
Have checked the set up, and found something about port forwarding, and followed the instructions to forward the port on my linksys. In the logger now it doesn't say anything, but when testing the port through Options-Speed Guide it keeps on coming back saying that the port can't be opened.Any ideas? Thanks
Ultima
Are you sure you did all the port forwarding/static IP stuff correctly? Are you using any software firewall? What modem are you using? What's the exact router model?
chinchillan
Yep, have checked and double checked that I now have a static IP, and that my Linksys WRT54G has it's port forwarded. After reading some of the other problems I changed the port number from the default in both Utorrent and the router settings. I don't have any specific firewall software. Only Nortons Anti-Virus 2005. I'm using XP and the windows firewall is disabled. The only other place I have seen anything about firewalls was when I logged onto my router and there was a firewall tab. Block Anonymous Internet requests and filter internet Nat redirection are both unchecked. Filter multicast and filter ident(port113) are both checked. Not sure what else it could be. Ultima
Do you have worm protection disabled in NAV2005? And what modem are you using?
chinchillan
Oh, sorry forgot to tell you, it is a wireless setup that the router is connected to. Wouldn't know what the model is because the router is connected to a recieving dish.
Ultima
Oof... if you're using a wireless connection from somewhere else, there's nothing you can do about forwarding your ports, as their gateway is out of your reach and/or control =T
chinchillan
have just disabled the worm protection. I believe there is a box next to the recieving dish, that may contain a modem. I have never looked in there so wouldn't know. I won't be able to get into the box until tomorrow though as I don't have the key here.
chinchillan
It's my own wireless connection though. Not using a shops or centre or anything. It was one I set up here due to not being able to get a land line to the house that i have. Or is there somewhere else that has control of my ports? I have set the ports on the main router. Ultima
With what is that receiving dish (that the router's connected to) communicating?
chinchillan
Well when setting it up, the company installs a dish (similar to a saterlite dish) which it can recieve and send information to their server. From that dish I have a cable running into my router, which in turn is connected to my PC. Since it is my own set up, surely I should have access to everthing. I would hope so anyway. Is there anyway I could check?
chinchillan
It is communicating with to another transmitter/reciever of the main ISP. Im using the transmitter because as mentioned, I can't get a landline installed in this house because of where we are
chinchillan
Thanks, will come back tomorrow and try to get some more info on the system I am using, and take a look if there is anyother modem/box that the reciever is connected to. Ultima
Then like I said, it is a wireless connection you're using (which is not your own, but your ISP's), and as such, you can't do anything about it. They have the keys, and they control the ports before the wireless signal even gets sent out to you.
