tubbyman20
I'm pretty sure that my speed issues are to do with port forwarding. I followed the tutorial on www.portforwarding.com for my router (netgear dg834gt) but when i do the check on utorrent to check that the port isnt blocked, it says it still is. I have norton internet security 2006, the program has allowed utorrent, and even when i turn norton off there is no difference in speeds. The port i am trying to allow is 16788. I have tried with another port.. and i have noticed no change in speeds. Please help, replies would be greatly appreciated, as i am going away for 5 days tomorrow.I also noticed this message at the bottom. I don't know if this is normal or not =/:

spork985
If you look at the status bar at the bottom, its about in the middle, it will either be red, yellow, or green.

spork985
a green icon should mean that the port is open and able to recieve connections. go to www.canyouseeme.org and enter your port number. this will tell you if the port is accessible from outside. tubbyman20
Error: I could not see your service on 86.131.52.26 on port (16788)Reason: Connection timed out
spork985
Okay, you said you are trying to use port 16788, the image above shows that it is trying to map port 47989. Open options, under the connection tab, check the port entered there. Also, make sure the random port on startup is not checked, and check the one about windows firewall, incase thats blocking it. Also, check to make sure your computer has a static IP address. restart utorrent and try the www.canyouseeme.org again.
tubbyman20
Checking Port 16788... Port 16788 does not appear to be open.i checked it out on another website, cuz canyouseeme wasnt working still.how do i find out if i have a static/dynamic IP? spork985
To find about a static IP... open control panel, click network connections, right click the active network, click properties. Choose the item Internet Protocol, and click properties. You should have "Use the following IP" checked. If not, check it and enter an the ip that your router is forarding to. If this is already set properly, Check if your modem is in routing mode, if so, you will need to forward the ports there. It has a config page too. This is kindof an interesting situation because you have a green status light but the port says its still closed.
jsillup
@tubbyman20: Norton Internet Security stealths ports by default which prevents peers from making incoming connections. You must untick the "Stealth blocked ports" box under "Advanced security settings" on the Firewall tab of NIS Options. If your ports are stealthed BitTorrent FAQ's NatCheck will fail. Ontguy02
I've had a similar event occur for me. All I did was go to preferences and randomize the port, use the port forwarder to check if it's open then use it. If not, I randomized it again until I got one that was open. madgeni
Did, you port forward it all, or did you use UPNP, did you make any configurations to your router, or make a static Ip address anything like that? Or did you just install the software and did what you did?

Switeck
daniellyt,Maxonline ISP in Singapore is known to heavily throttle BitTorrent traffic...they may even do something now to permanently firewall you too.
js5578
im directly connected to the internet with my wireless broadband, im not using any router, how can i make the port open? thanks alot!!!!
Ultima
You aren't connected directly to the internet with wireless broadband. With those services, you can't forward your port, because the ISP is controlling the ports.
