why utorrent dosn't create avi files but a .dat?

Hi,

I'm downloading a group of avi files (episodes of a tv series). At the beginning I had in my torrent directory the avi files, one for each episode. Now the software has created a big .dat file (named ~uTorrentPartFile_5B55F0E30.dat , almost 2 Gb) while the software tell me I downloaded 7 more episodes (so 7 avi files) of 300 Mb each (all downloaded at 100%).

Why it happens? Can I extract the avi from the .dat?

I'm running utorrent 1.4 under win xp pro
