Zero
I have a DLink DI-704 which is pretty old now... I wasn't sure if the tips for the other DLink router models extends to the 704, so I thought I should post first. When I'm running uTorrent, it warns me that the router is limitting my connections - I get less than 10KB/s Down and 5 Up. If I put my system into the DMZ, the rates go way up. However, this makes me a little uncomfortable for security reasons and I wanted to know if there's a way I can get the router to cooperate more effectively with uTorrent. I've mapped the port I use to the machine uTorrent is on, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any tips on this?
Ultima
DMZ mode should not be used on D-Link routers... are you sure you forwarded properly? What does the port checker in the Speed Guide say when you forward manually?
Zero
Hmmm... out of curiosity, why should DLink's not be used in DMZ? The port checker in the Speed Guide tells me the port has been forwarded correctly.
Ultima
It's known to cause hashfails for a lot of people. Pick a torrent from here, how fast does it run when you forward manually?
Zero
Hi Ultima,I decided to update my router's firmware (after some digging on DLink's website I found the most recent version, even though it's been unsupported for some time now). This seems to have fixed the problem, as I'm now getting much better rates overall. However, I went do get the Open Office torrent as you suggested and I get about 100KB/s on it. What kind of rates should I be seeing? Most of my other torrent downloads will range from between 5.0KB/s to aroun 40.0KB/s. The rare download might go as high as 90KB/s - I'm assuming that's normal? Ultima
Yes, it's normal for that torrent to hit high speeds. What kind of connection do you have (both upload, and download), speed wise?
Zero
I have a 10MBps connection which usually tests at around 2.2Mbps down and 1.0Mbps upstream.
Ultima
Now that's odd... You should be able to go faster than 100KiB/s on the OpenOffice.org torrent if that's indeed your connection... Did you follow the setup guide?
Zero
Setup Guide? I guess that would be a no. Where can I find it?
