DarkEdward
My speed is horribly slow (most of the time only about 3 kbs....) and I was clicking around on the help page and read something about port forwarding if the port is closed to get faster speeds. However when I began to read, I was a bit overwhelemed.... Can anyone help me? In anyway?

Switeck
Run µTorrent's Speed Guide (CTRL+G).Do its speed test and port checker.Use the Speed Guide settings that most closely matches your connection's UPLOAD speed....and start learning how to properly set up your router/firewall/antivirus so µTorrent is unfirewalled but not just anything can connect from the internet to your computer. It's perfectly ok to run firewalled till then...may even get good speeds on torrents with lots of seeds+peers. Ultima
You sure you forwarded the ports properly?
DarkEdward
I probably didnt. I dont think I did the static IP address right because its says you have to have an UP addy of something like 192.168. *1*. XXXi dont the whole command thing, but none of them have 1's in that location. Do you understand what I am saying? *scratches head*
Ultima
...? Undo the static IP stuff... what does ipconfig show your IP as then?

DarkEdward
Nevermind....back down to 0.3 kb/s >.<
Ultima
Set that as your static IP then. You're not supposed to be going from 192.168.0.x to 192.168.1.x anyway.
DarkEdward
Its still not working. I get stuck when I reach the step where I have to open a web browser and punch in the IP addy for the router in the address bar. I get nothing but a 'page cannot be displayed'. Ultima
You used the default gateway IP address? What router are you using?

DarkEdward
What would happen if I reset my router? Would it mess up my networked internet connection or screw up something that would cause the ISP people to have to come out and fix it?
Ultima
What about my first question...?
DarkEdward
Yea, the default thing IP to get to the router 192.164.1.1 or something like that, didnt work. So I tried all the other ones and they didnt work either.
Ultima
Er... 192.164.1.1...? Not 192.168.1.1?Do you have a firewall? If not, try a hard reset on the router? That clears all settings on the router, which might fix the fact that you can't connect to the router, if you are indeed entering the correct IP. A hard reset would be where you press and hold the small button for a while (maybe 30 seconds to a minute) somewhere on the router with something thin, like an opened paperclip. DarkEdward
Yes, I used the correct IP addy. I know how to reset the router and I was thinking the same thing, i just want to know if it will screw up everything where the ISP people would have to come out and fix it, like I asked before. Ultima
Sorry, got confused with another thread, so I didn't realize you were the one who asked that earlier. Um, the only thing I can think of that might screw up is the PPPoE settings, but only if you're using DSL. If you know your login information, then that likely wouldn't be an issue. All you'd have to do after it gets reset (assuming you can't get back online) would be to fill in the PPPoE stuff.
DarkEdward
Alright, I will reset my router and see if anything changes. If not...I dunno @.@
