yes so here is what i have

Westell 6100 modem - that plugs into my wireless

Belkin F5D7230-4 router.

im using utorrent on my laptop. IP is 192.168.2.3 port trying to forward is 55657.

When using the Belkin router, you cannot access the Westell because it tries to act as one instead of two.

i have Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet secrurity as a firewall and i have configured it to where it allows that port come in and out

i have configured the belkin to forward my 55657 to 192.168.2.3

Test says Error! Port 55657 does not appear to be open.

and i have the little red cicle that says not connectable

DHT: 279 nodes.

if you need any additional information, tell me what you need and ill give it to you.

anyhelp will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

i conected my laptop directly to the modem, i turned off the firewall and then i forwarded my port it said my port was good. so i went back and pluged in the router, made sure its firewall was off, checked my ports to see if they were forwarded on them, and i gives me the error. but now i have the yellow triangle

Your router should have a dynamic internet ip, however it should have a static/fixed internal LAN ip.

It is your computer that ALSO needs to be set to a static/fixed internal LAN ip so the router knows where to port forward to. If your computer ever changes its LAN ip, the router would end up forwarding all the traffic on the port you choose to the wrong place! (...probably to nowhere, losing all the incoming packets on that port!)

Actually, you got the meaning of something backwards...even though you probably did it correctly.

You are forwarding both TCP and UDP incoming (from-the-internet) packets on port 55657 to 192.168.2.3

...at least if everything works correctly.

A problem may be if your router is not in the 192.168.2.x address block. Being on a different subnet ip may cause routing problems...and even if the port forwarding is otherwise set up correctly, it might still fail because of it.

Er, I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve, but I don't think you can (or should be attempting to) merge anything into one subnet. The modem's subnet is separate, but contains the modem itself, and the router. The router's subnet is separate, but contains all your computers and itself. What you need to do is set the router's IP to be static on the modem's subnet, which should be doable via the router's configuration interface -- you should be able to set the static IP address.

I got it. for right now i do anyway. my router was connecting to my modem dynamically itself. i went to the modem and logged in and then i dissconnected it. i went into the router, and changed the connection type to the PPP. and then after that i went and changed the IP to 192.168.1.250. so i went and made sure my port was forwarded, and bingo it was. i guess now i go see if everything else is good. i got the green circle so im sure i cant be too far from complete victory. thats everyone especially you Ultima for all the help.
