frostyboy Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 I have always duplicated torrents with different trackers so that I can label them seperately to keep track of which is which.......for upload ammount and time running etc.I have DHT disabled and have 'private' ticked. If I D/L a torrent from one source and wish to upload on another site, I have always been able to duplicate the torrent, each with its own label.Now.....It tells me that the torrent is already loaded and do I wish to load the trackers from it. So µTorrent wont let me have two running.Has something in µTorrent changed.......or have I set something differently.I really like having a torrent for each tracker....how do I ensure this happens please???.....frostyboy.....
TheBear Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 When you create them, add _tracker_x or _tracker_y (or something similar) to the torrent filename perhaps?
frostyboy Posted October 3, 2006 Author Report Posted October 3, 2006 I do give the torrents different names.....but the file name is the same of course.I just added a duplicate torrent that worked......giving me two listings. But just after that....did another one that gave me the above message and wouldn't give me two listings.....:-/.....frostyboy.....
DreadWingKnight Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 The reason it's doing this is that the infohashes for the torrents are the same.uTorrent considers them to be the same torrent.
frostyboy Posted October 3, 2006 Author Report Posted October 3, 2006 So why is the infohash sometimes the same, and sometimes different, when making two torrents of the same file?.....frostyboy.....
Switeck Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 That's due to each torrent having different piece size. Some might use 256 KB, another 512 KB, and another 1 MB.So each seem to be referring to torrents with more/smaller pieces -- or torrents with big/few pieces -- despite being the same files.
frostyboy Posted October 4, 2006 Author Report Posted October 4, 2006 So....what we're saying here is....When I D/L atorrent that has NOT been made with µtorrent, it will let me have a duplicate.....'cos the chances are the piece size is different. And if I D/L a torrent that HAS been made using µtorrent, it thinks it's the same one....????So is the answer to change the 'auto detect' setting when I make a torrent, to a different piece size?.....frostyboy.....
Switeck Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 That's one way to do it...but you should still use something close to the recommended piece size.On a tracker that gets LOTS of peers connecting, you could use a larger piece size...since that would make for less tracker load as there's fewer (and larger) pieces to keep track of.On the other hand, if there's likely to be poisoners connecting to your torrent...make the piece size much smaller so legit peers are less likely to get banned when the poisoners do.
frostyboy Posted October 4, 2006 Author Report Posted October 4, 2006 Ok ...thanks for that...I'll give it a try........frostyboy.....
