Cougar24
Hey - I need help with Port Forwarding. I have a Westell modem and I tried the walkthrough that was on here. The problem is, is that Westell has updated that page and has changed everything around. Can someone give me like specific instructions to get the correct port for uTorrent? Thanks, - Will
Ultima
You're not helping us to help you by not providing any specific information. Like the obvious "what router do you have?" -.-
Cougar24
Oh yea, sorry. I have a Westell Versalink 327W. Its like a modem/router. I'm on a wireless connection right now
Cougar24
I found where I can port forward on my modem. Problem is, is that when i try to put it in on uTorrent it still give the message that it isn't open.I put something like 53010 in both global port ranges and the base host port and left the protocol on TCP. Is that correct?
Ultima
Are you adding that rule to the rules for your computer's IP address in the router?
Cougar24
Yea I made an open port with 53010 and enabled it... if thats what you mean
Ultima
What modem are you using, and what firewall?
Cougar24
I have the Westell Versalink 327W it doubles as a modem and a router. I don't have any special firewall installed, just the firewall that is with XP. I thought it might be something with the firewall so I disabled it and it still didn't do anything with my connection. But that yellow triangle and the red exlamation point are always at the bottom of uTorrent.
Ultima
Quite annoying, to say the least... I've helped walk several people through port forwarding on that same router before (or one with a VERY similar interface, don't quite remember), but I can never remember how exactly it is that I proceeded through the port forwarding... Have you checked this page though...? The interface looks exactly as yours does O.o
Cougar24
Yea, um... kinda already did that. Thats why i'm confused to why it isn't downloading. I'm connecting to peers though.
Ultima
The reason I ask is because you said "Westell has updated that page and has changed everything around," and from what I can tell, nothing's really changed... Anyway, care to take screenshots of the few pages before you got to that screen above?
Cougar24
On the Port Forwarding explaination page, there are 2 Versalink 327Ws, I just looked at the other one. On the one you linked me, everything is pretty much the same. One thing that is different from mine is that their's protocol says: TCP/UDP, while mine only shows one or the other. Besides that, I'm doing everything they are telling me to do. I'm not really skilled in networking though, so I might be messing up something that is really simple.EDIT---The reason why he has TCP/UDP on his protocol is because he was in the "Trigger Ports" window. I tried this too, but it didn't work.

Ultima
I don't know what to say... If you set a static IP up correctly, forwarded correctly to that static IP address, and have no firewall running, then I'm fresh out of ideas.

tosin19
I have the westell versalink router. I've gone to portforwarding.com for the guides and tried to follow the instructions; however, I think that versalink has changed its look because there were a couple more options listed than were in the guide, such as deciding how the service would be activated...host or dynamic (for dynamic it lets me select either my computer or an ip address). So, I've been playing with a bunch of combinations to see if anything of them work and nothing....I am guessing here that I need to select TCP not UDP (or maybe it doesn't matter) and that i need to set the global and base ports to the port selected by utorrent. I am also made sure that there isn't a firewall problem (Window's defender firewall from Vista). I am wondering if maybe I don't have a static ip address and that's the problem...but I thought that ips only change after you restart your computer...so shouldn't I at least pass the test once before restarting? Anyway, so I am very confused and very new at this.
Ultima
Some routers simply don't forward ports to IPs within their DHCP range, so you'll most definitely want to set a static IP up for your computer outside of the router's DHCP range. Just for confirmation, the Westell serves as a modem and a router, right? Is there a separate, dedicated router also connected between your computer and the Westell?
