Pwnage
I was just going through some of utorrents features when I realized something, if your setting utorrent to use a proxy it wont be for all connections, only for authentification, as long as thats all you set it to. From this I realized this this could provide an extra layer of protection for those of us that are extra scared that people are gona come and get us for downloading linux iso's. Well anyways my question is, where do I find a proxy server that I can use? A good anonymous one? This would be a good extra layer, for those who are that paranoid. Ultima
A proxy is NO help for this. It's useful for people who need proxies to connect to the internet, or are throttled/blocked in some way. Most free proxies that claim to be "transparent" and "anonymous" aren't so. And even if they were, the people you're "scared" of can always force the information out of the proxy owners if they wanted to. Additionally, you're *basically* firewalled to other users when you're sitting behind a proxy.
Switeck
Worse, some BT clients might report their local/internet ip despite running with a proxy. There ALL protection is gone. And the reason a proxy will make you firewalled is you can't really port forward a proxy. It only knows where/how to connect back to you when you start the connection first.
