To start, I have read the FAQ's, and am very confused.

I am new to all this torrent stuff, so please forgive my ignorance.

What exactly is a "failed hash check" and while I read a lot about seeding, I still dont understand exactly what it means?

Can someone help me out here, in simple, laymans terms?

I am finding that this program (just purchased today) is not as fast as it claimed to be, unless I have the settings all wrong?

It means the piece downloaded by µTorrent was corrupted. µTorrent automatically trashes hashfailed pieces, and redownloads them. If you purchased µTorrent, you were scammed. µTorrent is absolutely free. Ask your credit card company to withhold and/or cancel the payment, or get a refund, or something.

http://www.utorrent.com/guides.php <-- read the stuff here to get yourself up to speed with BitTorrent and setting µTorrent up.

Wow, thank you... I guess I was scammed.... Crappy.... Of course, when you sign on, there is a 100% refund if you're not satisfied, but now, looking into it, cant find anything where I can get my money back (CC companies wont put a stop on payments, at least not here anyways).

I did read a bit of that guide ultima, but got totally confused... I guess I'll just have to play around with it a bit.

Thank you for your response though, I do appreciate it (as a newbie, with dumb questions!)

Ask away if there's something you get confused with, though :)

@Analog6: You just joined the forums a few hours ago, posted 3 posts, and you think you've the right to say that no one wants to help you? That's ridiculous. Additionally, DON'T hijack threads for no reason. In any case, since it looks like you're looking for help with something we DON'T do support for:

Posting about any illegal sharing of copyrighted content is strictly FORBIDDEN.

Ok, so can I ask why, when I finish a download, it shows complete, but the 'seeding' is still going on? Is it safe to remove the file from the window, or should I allow it to continue seeding?

I read this in the FAQ, but dont understand it.

**µTorrent shows an ETA/Remaining time when seeding based off the ratio set in "Seeding Priority," so you can know about how long it'll take to reach the specified ratio. **

What kind of ratio am I trying to achieve? What is the seeding priority? I'm sorry to come across as daft, but this is my first time trying this out, and I honestly just dont get it !

You should leave the torrent seeding if at all possible until the ratio gets to about 1.0, or more if you're feeling generous. It's just common courtesy to share back what you received from the community.

The ratio is the amount of data you uploaded divided by the the amount of data you downloaded. By reaching 1.0 ratio (or 100% ratio if you prefer), you're sharing as much back as you received. The seeding priority is the % you see in Preferences > Queueing.

So when you are looking at the seeding column, which one is yours, the one in the brackets, or the one without brackets?

For instance, one of my downloads looks like this in the seeding column, 0 (27), yet I have another that looks like this, 3(3).. they've been seeding since sometime last night... is this normal? I dont mind giving back as much as I receive, not at all, but should it be taking longer then 24 hours?

I guess while I'm asking silly questions, again, the peers column, what does that mean, it looks much like the seeding column, with a number, then another number in brackets right behind it.

Oh, and just what exactly are 'trackers'? Is that the people you're getting the info from?

There is no "Seeding" column. There is only a "Seeds" column, which (as its name implies) counts the number of seeds you're connected to, and the number of seeds there are in the swarm as reported by the tracker (that number being in the parentheses). Depending on how fast you're uploading, and how large the torrent contents are, it can take over 24 hours to seed back.

Peers is the same as Seeds, only it pertains to the number of peers rather than seeds. The guides I linked to (more specifically, the beginner's guide) does explain what trackers are. The tracker is the server you're getting other seeds' and peers' IP addresses from.

Thank you Ultima, I find it easier reading what someone else posts then reading guides. I tried to read it, but I have a hard time reading things on a monitor for any length of time. I plan to print out the guide tomorrow at work so I have it here to reference to.

Thank you so much for your patience, I truly do appreciate it. This is all so new to me...
